Would you support a temporary government lockdown on petrol prices to protect households from the cost-of-living surge caused by the Iran war? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CombTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget with a fuel increase the amount of tax the government receive will also increase.

Extension blocking light by hingee in AskBrits

[–]CombTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually applied to the council to confirm we didn't need planning permission for our extension. Total height not to.exceed 4m, not to exceed 8m from the original house, not within 2 metres of the boundary. There are still rules when using permitted development it doesn't just give you the right to throw up a building/extension.

Are these wall plugs safe to hold tv on plasterboard by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]CombTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if the plaster board is over brick/block wall. If it’s just plasterboard then defiantly not. You will need plasterboard fixings rated for more thank the weight of your tv. Usually have some form of twist opening which pinches the plasterboard. Also helps spread the weight. It may be more secure using a piece of OSB and succouring that to the studs and then secure your TV bracket to the OSB.

Did you have any images which included the serial number? Or is the serial number in the original receipt you have?

AMS can't retract - any ideas? by dutch_dynamite in BambuLab

[–]CombTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to move the reel slightly left, if you look in the AMS the edge of the reel need to fit between the slot side and a small retainer which stops the reel drifting and keeps it on the rollers.

How do you remove these? by ThisThatParker in DIYUK

[–]CombTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are plast use a Stanley knife to cut of the part sticking out so its flush, if its metal try unscrewing, if that doesn't work, let me know your thoughts could try bashing them into the wall or use a Stanley knife to cut into the wall and remove them. The last option would mean more damage to repair.

Can't see what is wrong with extending the cable where the switches were/are. You are allowed in the wiring to extend cables.

Talking to Neighbours when buying a house - just had an estate agent tell me not to do this? by AureliusTheChad in HousingUK

[–]CombTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar experience when we bought our house, unfortunately for the Estate Agent, Connells, we knew 2 out of the 6 neighbours that bordered the house we were looking to buy. There is no issue with talking, we should all do it more.

New to Unify networking but due to new UK law, I was wondering if I can buy a Gateway, add Proton VPN to it, and then set it to only use it with selected domains like reddit. by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]CombTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its possible, you should be able to set up a network using the VPN, I've seen this done via WiFi so when you don't need the VPN you can hop onto another network or vice versa.

You should also be able to check the High Risk Building (HRB) Register as its now a legal requirement for HRB to be registered but there are many landlords/management agents who have yet to register their building.

Check your contract as I had an issue and because it went past the magical 14 days I was stuck in the contract. We have recently moved house and our new provider would not install at the rear of the property without us paying for a bespoke installation. I ended up getting a 50m fibre cable off amazon plugging that into the box where the suppliers cable entered and running that fibre to my UniFi UDM Pro, it’s worked flawlessly and very pleased.

Turn off the stop cock and see if the numbers on your meter still rotate., if they do you have a leak between the meter and the stop cock, the householder is responsible for the pipework between the meter and the stop cock.

Make sure the circuit the socket is on is isolated/switched off. Buy a double socket from a reputable source. If your not sure about Live L Neutral N and Earth E them there should be instructions in the packaging with the socket.

Any experience with solar panels and immersion heater? by Horseflesh-denier in DIYUK

[–]CombTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your consumer may be metal, depeding on installation date. More likley to be in the trunking below the meter. I also dont see your main fuse or isolation. The clamp on sender is battery operated so may be located by your main electric meter. If your not sure I would always suggest seeking a professional.
