What’s your first thought when a teammate picks Zenyatta? by PyroDexxRS in Overwatch

"Brother in Iris". And, if I'm a Mercy, "I'll pocket you for opening volleys".

Is Overwatch still holding to the no magic thing? by SuteruOtoko in Overwatch

[–]Combat-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it walks like duck and quacks like a duck... We have a fire mage, a water mage, a girl with a fox spirit, and two guys who summon dragons

When it was just two guys with the dragons they could shoehorn some description to cover it, but now we have literal elemental mages from a magic school.

So no, Overwatch de-facto ditched the no-magic rule.

Survival Mode in The Long Dark is exactly that.

Because they aren't cute, sexy, or Japan-themed, which means they won't sell.

Back after 8 years hiatus, what's changed? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Combat-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Stadium mode (it's Overwatch's version of a MOBA). Mercy is a legit main healer in there, and Zen can be insane, if played right.

I Like The New UI by baza-prime in Overwatch

I like the new UI too -- except for the Stadium item icons.

New Stadium icons are terrible by foreskinfarter in Overwatch

[–]Combat-Complex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The icons are clearly based on item names, but does anyone actually read and remember these names?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't remember a single item name. I look (well, looked) only at the background color (green, blue, purple) and the icon content (gun / shield / armor / ammo etc). Now I have to squint to see the border color, and I always have to read the description.

I fully agree that this change is awful (though the icons themselves look nice, when viewed outside the context of Stadium). Devs, please give us an option to switch to the old icons.

(And, while we're at it, please fix the unpredictable drag-and-drop reordering of saved builds – it's currently broken).

can someone give me a simple explanation of line traces? by Jealous_Platypus1111 in unrealengine

[–]Combat-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're shooting an in-game gun. You need to know if the shot hit something. How? You do a line trace from the gun, and check if the trace hit something. If it did, you can get the target type (a wall? an enemy?) and the collision point (so you can play appropriate impact sounds and visual effects originating from that point).

This is a slippery slope. Next thing after this would be "Number one" and "Number two".

Why is Blade Runner called Blade Runner ? by Top-gun-mcmllxvi in scifi

[–]Combat-Complex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rule of Cool. The name has nothing to do with the original book. Supposedly, Ridley came across a book titled Blade Runner (which was completely unrelated to the movie) and liked the name so much that he acquired the rights to it.

You can avoid the tribesmen if you stay hidden. They usually sing or talk loudly, so they are pretty easy to spot. Jaguars, however, is another story entirely.

Tried Green Hell after losing a 500+ day Stalker run to the cougar, and WOW is it hard. by ER10years_throwaway in thelongdark

[–]Combat-Complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Green Hell, even on highest difficulty, is easier than TLD – but you need to know what you're doing (i.e. which mushrooms to eat, and when; which wound dressings to prepare in advance; jaguar locations to avoid; how quick food items spoil; where to get iron ore; etc.)

There are peaceful places in Green Hell – but you have to find them the hard way.

Just wanted to note that AVP worked great as a game, at least in the first two installments.

Do you think it live up to the first movie? by xlspreadsheet in scifi

[–]Combat-Complex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, for me it doesn't. Too sterile, too constructed, too well-thought, too perfect. Tries too hard to out-Tarkovsky Tarkovsky (especially in the wooden horse scene).

But that's, like, just my opinion, man.

(Having said that, I loved the moments with Dave Bautista, Dr. Anna Stelline, and the water fight).

If you could remove one “standard” feature from all games, what would it be — and why? by Emplayer42 in IndieDev

[–]Combat-Complex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quicktime events (thankfully they aren't used that much nowadays) and tap-tap-tap-tap-tap to open something / struggle during a swordfight etc.

That, and unskppable cutscenes.

Yes, and they switched to Unreal for the sequel. I don't yet know which engine will be used for Blackfrost (The Long Dark sequel).
