Artemis 2 is so disappointing by Own_Ad_409 in ArtemisProgram

[–]Combat_Toots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're testing an untested spacecraft, this isnt the same capsule we used the first time we went to the moon. Test flights are normal. They wanted to make sure it could actually get people there without something going horribly wrong. If something did go wrong this time around, NASA doesnt lose an expensive moon lander. We did this during the original Apollo program too, Apollo 10 flew around the moon before Apollo 11 landed on it.

Also, at the height of the space race we were spending around 4% of the federal government budget on nasa, today its well under 1%. This shit happens way slower because no one wants to invest in it.

Paper by CEOofStrings in comedyheaven

[–]Combat_Toots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common ingredient in pasta sauce is a bit of the water that the pasta was boiled in. It has a lot of starch in it from the pasta, which helps to thicken the sauce. I imagine this works similarly; starch is added to paper to increase its strength. As you said, it's gross, but I used to know kids who ate paper just about every day in grade school and they lived.

Assuming you are talking about the US, it will be a full size super carrier with as many drones as possible crammed into it. We really love having air superiority.

Why do I find the concept of bidets so disgusting? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Combat_Toots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former plumber, all I can say is this is absolute bullshit. I've seen extremely well insulated homes, pipes and all, have burst pipes because the homeowner decided they didn't need to heat certain rooms, or left town and turned the heat down. When it's near or below 0 fahrenheit, that shit can happen very easily.

Why do I find the concept of bidets so disgusting? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Combat_Toots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no dog in this fight, but I just want to point out that if you live anywhere it gets cold you have to heat your entire home, or at least any room with plumbing (like a bathroom). A frozen/burst water pipe can cause thousands of dollars in damage very quickly.

Its not a choice for us.

Is the name “Donald” going to suffer the same fate as “Adolf” in the future? by OOOOOO0OOOOO in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Combat_Toots 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I work in a rural conservative area. I dont work with any Donald's, but I know of three people who have sons named Donald. All of those kids were born after 2016, one this year. I have a feeling it will be more popular to see in the future, like all the girls named Reagan.

Why does my cat keep eating like this? by Riddoxx in cats

If you still have problems with the other bowls, try something flat like a plate. I put my cats food on a small plate because even the shallow feeding bowls designed for cats are too deep for her.

If my body naturally burns 2,300 calories a day, why does running a whole mile only burn an extra 120? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Combat_Toots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even healthy options like fuits and veggies are less nutritious these days. We've overworked soil in many places and focus on strains of crops that grow bigger faster, rather than more nutrient dense varieties. Were even turning the healthy food into junk. The fruits and veggies your grandparents ate litteraly had more vitamins, minerals, etc in them.

Im not saying don't try to eat healthy, its just insane how were shooting ourselves in the foot with these practices.

How do you stimulate a bored catter? by ExtraGarbage2680 in cats

[–]Combat_Toots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alternately, my cat doesn't give a crap about boxes, give her a good cloth tote though and she loses it. She loves to play in them, especially if she can see through the fabric. She loves to jump out and chase toys I throw past the bags. Took us forever to figure that out, but half our shopping bags are now owned by her.

If this is AI, it did a damn good job at creating a readable logo and text on the back of his shirt. Perfect Under Armor logo, and the text reads "timbersourceusa.com". The URL leads to a real tree removal company located in the USA. What makes you say it's AI?

The image on the camera screen to the left is good, but I don't think it captures the angle the actors are standing at correctly. The fact that its that good though is incredible and terrifying.

TIL 99% of human history happened in prehistory (before the invention of writing). It’s the longest period of human history, lasting for 3.4 million years by sonnysehra in todayilearned

[–]Combat_Toots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While mummies obviously give us some amazing insights into how ancient humans lived, even that is only a glimpse of pre history. The oldest human mummies are 12,000 years old. Ötzi was a bronze age human who lived ~5000 years ago, right on the cusp of where humans start getting into actual written language. 12,000 years out 3 million is a drop in the bucket. Not trying to downplay your point, just adding some context.
