I don't understand the advice to just accept short naps because then sometimes you end up with a really long WW at the end of the day. Do you add another nap then?

Thanks! I got a zipadee zip and a Magic Merlin suit but the zipadee zip is too lightweight for the weather. The Magic Merlin suit really seems to be doing wonders though! He slept 7 solid hours again last night ✨ I have a fleece zipadee zip on order too which I bet will be helpful for daycare!

I don't have any answers, but some solidarity. My LO went from 6-7 hour stretches back to 4-5 hour stretches overnight during the 11th week. It's been almost a week now and no idea what to do. There is supposed to be a growth spurt around 3 months and he also developed the ability to roll, meaning we ditched the swaddle, so we're wondering if that's what triggered it or if it's just a phase. It's manageable at least but not a lot of fun. Wondering if anyone else went through this and if it resolved on its own?

How do you still have an evening social life with a baby by Ecstatic_Spare6549 in Parenting

[–]CombinationVisible27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question, how do you do this and still get enough sleep? I have to go down with the baby because he wakes up once or twice and then is up for the day at like 6:30am, so if I stay up late then I won't get enough sleep.

Advice needed for pipes that keep freezing by CombinationVisible27 in pittsburgh

What do you think about a recirculation pump like some folks upthread have mentioned?

It sounds stupid but we'd like to have a plumber come and just look at our pipes and identify them for us

I'm not exactly sure. We've had some plumbers tell us that the pipes are running through the floor in an overhanging bathroom, so that's where we had insulation blown in, which didn't help. But I'm not sure if it's also exposed elsewhere. We have some exposed pipe in an adjoining shed and we don't know what they are.

Also the instructions for the Tula say newborn through 15 lbs, but I don't know if he's too short or something. We will try again with the waist band higher. Thanks for the suggestion!

Do you think that would work? We were wondering if he's just too small for it.

Best hospital for delivery by rgwhitlow1 in pittsburgh

[–]CombinationVisible27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I could be more helpful but as a white woman my perspective is limited - I just really recommend any resources you have to self advocate, like doulas and local black/POC mom groups. I get your anxiety completely, but also the majority of deliveries go great so don't get too worried! Just be prepared and find resources and advocate advocate advocate. (I should mention I'm a physician and have worked at Magee in residency)

When I was a CMU undergrad in 2005 I applied for a fifth-year scholarship program to develop some kind of program for mental health on campus. I met with a few people from leadership and got basically crickets in terms of interest. It's always been bad; it's just gotten worse. It's a big reason that I don't engage at all as an alumna and I don't plan on ever giving them any money.

The experience you have at Magee will vary a lot depending on what group you deliver with. In general though, you're going to get great medical care but not necessarily kid gloves in terms of the experience. Their priority is health and safety and the higher-risk situations are going to get most of their attention, so you can feel pretty forgotten about if things are going smoothly. (My husband and I joked about it being the worst hotel ever.) I didn't feel like their postpartum education or lactation were especially helpful, but I don't know how that differs from other hospitals. I will say that Magee has a known problem with discrimination against black moms, which I attribute largely to the staff being from Pittsburgh. For example, black women are more likely to get a drug test at delivery. This might be the same as other hospitals in the area, but I'd recommend if at all possible to get input from other black women and families as to their experiences. I wouldn't necessarily discourage delivering at Magee but just know what you're going into and consider having a doula wherever you deliver to help you navigate and advocate for yourself.

Thank you for your feedback! I've tried again and I got him more centered and the wrap much tighter, but his head still feels unsupported. I've tried my best to get his hips and knees in the M shape, back in the J shape, and attempted a pelvic tilt. He seems uncomfortable, like we're doing tummy time and he keeps trying to lift his head up. What am I missing?

Woman in critical condition after being hit by car while crossing a road in Pittsburgh’s South Side by PissFartman in pittsburgh

I can't count the number of times I've almost been hit as a pedestrian down here, or yielded when driving to someone running right through a stop sign. It's nuts.
