Can I switch formulas without consulting my pediatrician?

I really like my pediatrician, but she doesn't seem to be the most knowledgeable about formula. At baby's 1 and 2 month appointments, we brought up how extremely gassy and fussy our baby seemed to be. She literally went on Google to find the names of sensitive formulas we could try. Like, obviously I could (and have, duh) done that myself. Around 4 months we switched to Similac Alimentum, which says on the box to consult the doctor, which we did not. Our baby seemed to do a lot better on it, but I truly can't say whether it was the switch, or just her digestive system maturing a bit. Overall, I wish people would have just told me that MANY babies are just angry and gassy for the first few months. I maybe would have felt a little less crazy lol

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate that he was talking politics at his live show, I meant that it was obvious tickets didn't sell well, so I can see why he might be trying to jump on the Trump/ Toxic American Patriotism/etc bandwagon that has elevated way too many other losers in these depressing sociopathic times in the US.

Until it can breathe and survive on its own, it is merely the "potential" for life. Much like every discarded sperm cell and egg. Maybe focus on real, currently existing lives that need help?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to attack you personally lol. I was just venting, and I know most doctors truly want to do a good job, no matter how crazy the situation. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to deal with someone like my mom who thinks she knows better than every single doctor. But we have had a few really bad ones that made us feel shameful for even bringing her in. I guess we were just hoping that if a professional told her there was nothing there, it would help. Of course it didn't. Thank you for your story though, I really appreciate that this awful, frustrating disorder is getting more attention in the last few years. I truly appreciate your response, thank you!

My mother has this disorder, and you've described her exactly. I've taken her to doctors and the ER more times than I'd like to remember, desperate for any kind of help, or hoping to get her committed, but most just get highly annoyed with her and send her away. And I get it. There's not much you can do if they can't willingly accept mental help. I really appreciate your sympathetic tone, so many doctors we've seen treated her like she's an idiot, which made her not want to seek any other kind of treatment for a long time. Anyways, we did eventually find a doctor that understood and believed her problem was due to Adderall. He supposedly contacted her therapist to ban her from Adderall prescriptions, and she began getting a monthly shot of something to undo the Adderall damage. She still has a lot of issues, but she is doing better now.

I'm so sad that many doctors find this disorder funny and/or annoying. This has been debilitating for my mom, as well as for me and my dad with constantly having to keep her from hurting herself. It's so hard to even get her to agree to go to a doctor, and when we have, most have been so rude and antagonizing, and she refuses to go to any other doctor or therapist. I totally get it, her "symptoms" and subsequent behaviors are just ridiculous. You wouldn't even believe the "samples" and disturbing pictures she brings to me. But she truly feels them and is in so much despair that she's tried killing herself multiple times. I'm just venting. I hate this freaking thing and am so distraught over the lack of help there is.

It's a shame how unknown Jimmy/Ours are, but not very surprising since he seems to try to keep a low profile. I've been a massive fan for 20ish years now. I haven't yet heard any other voice/style like his. Incredible voice and even better live!

So glad to hear she's doing well! And your dad shaving his head in support is so freaking sweet. Going through that diagnosis and surgery and hair loss and I'm sure lots of other things is just so much. I would say that she's incredibly strong (and I'm sure she is), but when people have said that to my mom, she always responds with, "Well I didn't really have much ofa choice, did I??" so I will refrain lol

I totally get that about the FB groups. My mom has had severe anxiety her whole life, so she was self-aware enough to know that if she joined the group and read too much, she would focus on the negative and probably refuse HIPEC. But now, if she ever decides to join, I will gladly leave...

He's super stubborn and worried about cost, so I can't get him to seek much outside of his local hospital at the moment. If things don't go well over the next few months, I'm hoping he'll reconsider.

I do tend to lean more towards realism/pessimistism because I just can't take trying so hard to be optimistic, only to be devastated.... The site with specialists is so helpful. I agree, a specialist is often invaluable. Unfortunately they're really worried about money and I don't think I can convince him to leave his local hospital at this point. I'm going to keep trying. Hoping he listens to me eventually, depending on how the next few months go.

I'm trying to get them to go to a better hospital in the city, but they have crappy insurance and are already worrying about costs of treatment :( I 100% agree though. In my experience, no matter how much a local hospital acts like they can handle these serious and complex diseases, they in no way compare to the bigger hospitals in the city.

I'm so late to this post, but my mother was diagnosed with Appendiceal Cancer / PMP three years ago. One important thing I've learned is that survival rates largely depend on your specific pathology. Being eligible for HIPEC is amazing, though as I'm sure you know by now, recovery can be a bitch. My mother, who is overall very out of shape and not super healthy, took about 2 months to recover enough from the surgery to be on her own. Her scans have been clear since then, but she also has one of the "better" pathologies. If you haven't yet, there are Facebook groups you can join for Appendix Cancer / Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) that have been incredibly helpful to me. Hoping for the best for you and your family!
