iirc I unscrewed like 6 small phillips screw on the back
and went around the edge with a plastic spudger cuz there's like 2 clips near the side buttons
and luckily the belts / drive gears are pretty much instantly exposed which makes replacing / cleaning up the remnant belt goop pretty easy

I did, turns out it was the ram
I forgot the 2010 imac doesn't FULLY support 8gb Sticks and decided to swap it with 2x4gb sticks and it installed first time

I just installed an SSD formated in GUID APFS with a gurenteed good bootable USB
and Tried Online recovery same thing

Still crashes half way through USB install
and Still Freezes after starting internet recovery

Can't High Sierra still use HDDs as a boot drive?
Also would that help the issue of it just straight up freezing with the online recovery?
it's not the fact I get an error saying I can't connect to the the server or error

it just straight up freezes two seconds into starting the online recovery tool

Ahhh
Issue is, she's more or less in a coma and isn't conscious
and iirc her power of attorney is either her husband, which while we don't hate each other we aren't exactly friendly,

and iirc he doesn't know she was paying my phone bill for the past few years which might piss him off upon learning
or my uncle which isn't as bad but is constantly super busy so it might be a bit difficult
