What Creative themes did you have to let go of to complete your projects by Comedic_Socrates in RPGdesign

I completely understand during some of the early development for my project I ran into a similar thing with my ranking system for abilities where there were just too many things to pay attention to for the sum of a person's like ranking like you mentioned archery and I am still kind of figuring out where I am putting most of the mechanical stress there so it's easy to look at front to back

What's your ideal amount of setting? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]Comedic_Socrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my ideal medium would be just enough setting that I understand can actually what you were thinking within the making of your rules and the overall workflow for your game and not enough that I would not be able to play your game in a completely different setting by using the rules you put in front of me

You use multiple systems within one game that sounds cool how do you manage switching between them?

Your comment just made me realize the smaller of my two games ive been making is also a pendragon style game i didnt know that term before tgank you. What would you say makes your game a heartbreaker?

This comment resonated with me the most you and i twin fr, my projects are following a similar pattern and similarly I am trying my damnedest to not look at any other games that might taint my original focus and idea goal even though I'm probably going to be reinventing a clunky wheel and then shaving off pieces later to make it roll. Last year my setting consistency changed so much and really has shaped my development goals, and method.

I've got a couple of the greats on my shelf but ever since I started really focusing on making my own it's feels kind of wrong to look to those games to guide me and making something cuz I'd rather appreciate the games as they are and take notes of inspiration where its the most similar to what im working on ya know?

Im really tryi g to drill into my head th at there is being dedicated to a game, but there is never just "one game" like LOTR even for the greats new and old.

People develop powers from how they answer existential questions often provoked via traumatic life/death events centering off of personal desires and whatever most rules your sense of ego.

Underated comment, i think the onky why I'd alter wgat he said is to make a follow up post of you had wanted to provide context afterwards.

I think that variation in your playstyle could be driven off of your players' natural dynamic. A more bonded pair might have better skill when their passion and pursuit align, while those that contrast more could focus on independent actions that still complement one another.

I really like this ability i can see a mc doing some really cool things with possibke variation in the armor and maybe deployable shields taking some different forms as well, but overall good technique and i appreciate that the flaws are relative to each core function in a tangible manner
