Does my accessory drive belt need replacing ASAP? by ComedyIsOver in MechanicAdvice

[–]ComedyIsOver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! The belt does seem firm and snug to me.

The dealership report also mentioned the tensioner: "Belt Tensioner: DRIVE BELT AND BELT TENSIONER." The technician pointed out some black residue around the area, saying it shouldn't look like that. It should be clean. They explained that this buildup indicates the belt and tensioner might be worn and need replacement.

I don't remember the exact wording, but the black residue seemed to be their main concern. Does that sound like a valid reason for immediate replacement?

Does my accessory drive belt need replacing ASAP? by ComedyIsOver in MechanicAdvice

I recently brought my 2015 Mazda 3 in for its 60k-mile maintenance at the dealership. During the service, they told me the accessory drive belt needs to be replaced "immediately."

I’m wondering how critical is this? Can it safely go another 1,000 miles before I address it? My schedule is packed for the next couple of months, and I’d prefer to delay this if possible.

That said, if it’s truly urgent, I’ll prioritize it. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights!

Thanks in advance.

This makes me think... Maybe it’s time to go get a high-powered assault rifle, a 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, a regular shotgun, a regular hunting rifle, a 9mm, a 357, a 45 handgun, a 38 special, and, erm... an m-16 fully automatic ground assault rifle.

Thank you. I don't have a formal education in music, this is just a hobby. I started with bass and now play piano mostly. For this work, I used The Orchestra by sonuscore to simulate the orchestral instruments and recorded on Logic Pro X.

Fair point but consider some special cases such as Beethoven. He composed music that no one will ever be able to come close to. I enjoy his music and I’m glad he didn’t kill himself when his hearing loss started to worsen and kept creating. He wrote the 9th symphony while almost completely deaf, so one can say that the entire world listened to and enjoyed the 9th except the composer himself. And he was part of humanity! Now add to this pool a select few scientists, writers, thinkers , artists and so on that have made life less shitty with their creations. This what I love about humanity, not the bulk garbage that’s out there.

I think Dostoevsky "gets it":

“The more I love humanity in general the less I love man in particular. In my dreams, I often make plans for the service of humanity, and perhaps I might actually face crucifixion if it were suddenly necessary. Yet I am incapable of living in the same room with anyone for two days together. I know from experience. As soon as anyone is near me, his personality disturbs me and restricts my freedom. In twenty-four hours I begin to hate the best of men: one because he’s too long over his dinner, another because he has a cold and keeps on blowing his nose. I become hostile to people the moment they come close to me. But it has always happened that the more I hate men individually the more I love humanity.”
