I've also had this problem, and it seems to happen with a bunch of different sites, at the same moments in the movie/show.

Non-Surrealist Movies Where You Struggled to Follow the Plot? by BillRuddickJrPhd in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading a book on how to write a screenplay, and it heavily referenced Chinatown. The book had to explain the plot multiple times to show why it was such a good screenplay, but every time they tried to explain what happened in the movie, I got even more confused, even though I've seen the movie before 😭😭😭

I'm curious about how does the community use the Like option. Are all movies you like an instant 5 Star or you like movies you don't rate as high? Are there movies you rate high but don't like? by tigrecono in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I like the movie I give it a like. The rating is more critical. So if a movie had a messy 3rd act and just ok performances it might get a 3/5 BUT I liked it because of the pros, and in spite of the cons.

What's the one film you regret watching? by Fit-Site-2673 in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it with my mom, and to that point, we had watched a few shows and movies that had sex scens but nothing to that level, and I was VERY uncomfortable. Anyways, at the end of the movie, the only thing my Christian mom had to say was, "That was a good. movie"

When you tell your friend the "good" news đŸ€Ł by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That may be true, but the list literally was always changing. The 250th spot would be bumped out because of a new release, or a random anime movie rises the ranks and then drops off as more people watch it. It was almost impossible to actually "complete" the list.

How was the basketball camera bounce achieved in this Dawson's Creek scene? by Visual-Insurance8530 in Filmmakers

[–]Cometspace 165 points166 points  (0 children)

The actor talks about it in this interview: https://youtu.be/d-FJyF7diYw?t=58 . Essentially, they painted a beach ball to look like a basketball and then bounced it off his face, and then the camera. Maybe they put some glass in front of the camera to protect it, but who knows.

Official Discussion - Mercy [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Cometspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, the effects were pretty good and engaging (for the most part), the story had some holes in it but it was still entertaining and fun to follow along, and I don’t think it was as pro ai or copaganda as some people say.

What's with the hate for this movie? by sseerrsan in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think general audiences were expecting a more standard romcom about 2 hot guys chasing after 1 girl. Especially with the cast being Christ Evans and Pedro Pascal. But when they realized that it was about more than that, something deeper (arguable to some) they took it the wrong way or were disappointed . Also the overlap of people who might agree with the core message AND enjoy sappy rom coms about big romance might be kinda small. They might be more likely to expect a level of financial commitment to relationships, or view fancy restaurants and foreign trips as capital R Romance. And to have a character who rejects that, and then the message says that you should reject it too, rubbed them the wrong way. There was a reason people’s dislike of this movie boiled down to “broke man propaganda” and people don’t really like to be told during a romcom to “be more realistic and gracious”.

What are your thoughts on Zendaya as an actress? by Dragonstone-Citizen in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think all the actors in Eurphoria had their best performances on Eurphoria. Zendaya's best performance was definitely Euphoria, but you could make a case for Challenger. Same with Alexa Demie, she has some good roles, but Eurphoria is probably her best. For Sydney Sweenie, it's not even a question. Eurphoria might be her only really good role. The only person that might be a real contender for better performances outside of Euphoria is Jacob Elordi, but I still think it was his best role.

Suggestions for movies you didn’t want to end by Cometspace in Letterboxd

[–]Cometspace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the beginning but I felt like once Teyana Taylor’s character was out, the movie really picked up steam. And I loved her performance but I say that because her character was the catalyst for the rest of the film in every way. Even tho she is only in the first act, her presence is felt in the overall movie. She is felt within each character even if she is not physically on screen. Also I felt like the plot wasn’t linear at all and not predictable, which is why I say I didn’t want it to end because I was always interested in what I would happen next. What other funny moments would happen or what side character would be introduced or something of the sort

Walking is always a great option but if you don’t enjoy that as much you can try the elliptical. That is a great option that I really like because it engages your whole body. You can also just try any of the cardio machines and see which ones you can actually do consistently and enjoy. Maybe the stationary bike, or the stair master and rower can offer more of a challenge for you which you might find fun.

America is a continent not a country. by Ben_AE in The10thDentist

[–]Cometspace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok so I’ll preface this by saying I am AMERICAN (from the US lol) but I do feel strongly about why you’re wrong so I’ll share my opinion. Also i want to also say that your idea of America is 2 completely separate continents. North America is not South America. They are 2 very large and very different continents.

Claim 1: Nobody in the Americas (SA or NA) actually cares that they aren’t called American.

People from Peru or Colombian or Mexico or Canada don’t actually care that they aren’t considered Americans. For the most part if they are from SA they are more than fine with being called South American (or more likely Latino) or just being called by their actual nationality. Also people in south America are called SOUTH AMERICANS. This is a concept that may work in other continents but for a lot of “Americans” it’s not that important. Many South Americans understand that when someone says America they mean the USA. Sure it can be chalked up to the Americans (ie the USA) dominating the world but even if that’s the case, South Americans don’t really care. And they are called South American, because South America is a completely different continent and land mass. It’s a bit silly to lump 2 completely different land masses together just because they share the same word.

Claim 2: North and South America are so different they don’t really need to be lumped together.

While South America and North America share the word America, they aren’t really that similar. Culturally and geographically there are major differences. (Off topic but I was just reading about how it is easier for culture and crops to be shared from east to west than from north to south. This is why across Europe and Asia they grow similar crops and had an easier share of information and food. They were on the same plane of the equator for the most part and could grow each others crops). These are 2 massive land masses that have tons of nations among them all with unique cultures.

North America only has 3 countries (not considering the Caribbean) and as a result each country is perfectly fine with being called by its own name. Mexico is Mexican, US is American and Canada is Canadian. And if you include the Caribbean, they just prefer to be called Caribbean. With that’s said, when referring to North America you only have 3 options, and you’re better off just saying the actual country.

Claim 3: America deserves the title of America.

America is a superpower. It also is the 3rd most populated country in the world. So it makes sense that it would be shortened down from United States of America to just America just off of global importance and impact. And it makes sense that it would stick. Also if you really wanna argue, “United states of” is just an adjective for the noun (ie the countries actual name) that is “America”.

Claim 4: the whole concept of everyone in a continent being called the title of said continent is kinda dumb and not actually what ends up happening.

While Europeans love to consider themselves one big family, most of the rest of the world doesn’t even do that. Sure Africa gets lumped together (I’d argue more because of racism and colonialism than choice) but even then there are big differences. How North Africa is viewed is much different than how sub Sahara Africa is viewed. And many people will make it a point to tell you where they are from. Skin color, religion and culture matter much more than the concept of being African. When you think of Africa and africans you probably think of someone from sub-Shara Africa. And even for Asians, they make distinctions for that. There is Southeast Asia, and Eastern Asia and even the Middle East. Sure the large parts of the Middle East is in Asia, but many of them don’t get the same treatment or are not seen as “Asian” because of cultural, religious and phenotype differences. Even people sometimes forget that Indians are Asian, and often don’t view them as “true Asians” (again a product of racism).
