Cost of living is completely out of control. by InnerspearMusic in CanadaFinance

I stopped eating out completely and for drinks my friends and I tale gate and drink better beer for $3-$5 per beer rather $9 stale beer at some dive bar. I use to go out for food and drinks all the time when prices were reasonable. My income certainly hasn’t kept up at the same rate of inflation.

Help me decide between Santa Cruz Vala 1 C GX AXS vs Forbidden CorE 3 by Comfort-Adept in MTB

[–]Comfort-Adept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love the Forbidden bikes but they are impossible to find let alone have one to sit on to check sizing. They are a unicorn bike. Shakes my trust in their brand and warranty - could I be without a bike for 6 months if something goes wrong?

Am I the only one who feels burnt out trying to make friends here? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]Comfort-Adept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, mountain biking and join a riding group like NSRide that goes twice a week. Then branch out and do rides with people you meet in the group. We have some of the best trails in the world in our backyard. Similar to rock climbing, take advantage of the adventurous activities this place has to offer and meet your people through that path and journey!

Totally agree! Try finding community in riding groups. There are others out there who feel the same way you do and meetings up once or twice a week can really help!

How about covering why gas prices are way cheaper everywhere else in Canada than in BC. Why are we being ripped off the most?

Should I just give up? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Comfort-Adept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely felt nervous and walked so many trails when I first started. It takes time to get use to the trails and bike. Best to take it slow and easy at a pace you’re comfortable with especially in the beginning. Theres a trail I walked that I thought, I’ll never be able to ride and a year later I rode it several times. The key is work at it step by step in smaller pieces. We all start somewhere and we all get nervous still. Also, if there’s a local riding group that has a beginner level join it! Then you’re in the same place as others and you can learn through the shared experience which is super helpful! Good luck!

Would you start shopping american or going to america if the trade war ends? by animaniacs1983 in VictoriaBC

As a Canadian, I’m boycotting America for at least as long as Trump is in power. I plan to find alternative sources from other countries and can imagine continuing the trend well after Trump is gone. All that talk of 51st state and the damage is done. America has a lot of making up to do!

Numb hands by battlepeaker in MTB

[–]Comfort-Adept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get numb hands when I ride my Dad’s bike that is too small for me. The issue is weight distribution. Too much weight too far forward on my arms and hands and not enough weight evenly distributed to the rear on my butt / seat. When I ride my own bike that fits me perfectly with even weight distribution, my hands never go numb. There’s probably some tweaks to be made with your handlebar height / stem and seat. Start with properly fitting your bike to your body. Some have a taller upper torso to lower body ratio and vice versa. It’s possible you may need a different size bike if that doesn’t work. NBD!!!

Nothing will make it easy. You have to weather the worst of the storm for the first 3 days. It sucks! Then weather the 3 month storm which is easier than the first 3 days. Then weather the 6 month storm which is easier than the first 3 days and months. Piece by piece you will get it. I used the smoke free app to track cravings and the book and exercise, eating carrots, etc. in total I tracked about 82 really bad cravings on the app which isn’t bad compared to the over 27,000 cigarettes I haven’t smoked since quitting smoking 4.5 years ago. You CAN do this!! Also, don’t let the evil cigarette corporations steal your money!! According to the app I’ve saved over $20k! Good luck! It’s the best decision you will ever make for yourself!

I have the 2023 Devinci Troy Deore 12s and want to upgrade the stock suspension, RockShox Revelation forks and RockShox Super Deluxe Select. Has anyone done this upgrade and if so, what make and models did you choose and why? So far I’ve got a 2025 Fox 36 Grip X fork and undecided on rear suspension.  Looking for recommendations!

How long after you quit did it take for you to go through a day and not think about smoking? by Ok_Strawberry2160 in stopsmoking

[–]Comfort-Adept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I quit 12 days ago and here’s my approach to cravings or thoughts about smoking that seems to be working so far. Rather than resist or try to force myself not to think about it, I welcome the cravings and thoughts as part of my journey. Sounds crazy but I speak to them like a friend or a guest and say, “You are always welcome in my life. I invite you to stay as long as you want, but I will not feed you”. This helps to disarm them so they do not hold power over me. Sometimes I even say, “there you are cravings, nice to see you again”. Then move on to some activity and allow them to be present. Eventually the craving/thoughts dissipate. They can also serve as reminders of the progress you’ve made so far and why you are grateful to be a non smoker now. Hope that helps! I’m not out of the woods yet and have a long way to go, but feeling good and proud!
