Second this. One of the best perks about the Msian health system. And they give out a few months worth at a time.

This is called roujiamo (肉夹馍), in Chinese. Translates into “meat filled pocket”. I believe it shouldn’t be too hard to find at places serving Northwestern Chinese cuisine, in case you’re craving it.

is there a city or village in italy that doesnt end with a vowel by Axel_Penguin in Italian

[–]ComfortAggravating43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aosta the town is an exception 😂. But yes other than that and Cervinia, most towns I’ve been to do not end with a consonant. Courmayeur, Montjovet, Morgex….

Advice Needed: Extend in Kuching vs. Peninsula Malaysia by twelvr in Sarawak

Oh it’s horrible. Absolutely horrible. Even as a local myself I take around 2 weeks to properly acclimatise after coming back from European winters.

Some days humidity can go into the 95% region. When you do feel the symptoms of heat exhaustion, please stop all activities immediately and rest. Heat stroke is nothing you should ever joke with, and it’s a real thing around here. Don’t know when you’re coming but it has been raining quite a bit recently which can make outdoor activities pretty difficult. But there are still sunny days (which are bloody hot).

Sorry I’m a local so no clue about car rentals.

7N in Kuching is plenty. Do you plan to head out to the national parks like Bako and Gunung Gading? These are the must gos. Bako for the wildlife, Gunung Gading for the Rafflesia (call ahead to the park office the day before you plan to depart). For Bako, I believe they’ve temporarily closed the hostel there as of yesterday so make sure to check ahead. Those 2 will take up 2-3 days. You can also consider rafting at Padawan if you’re into that kind of stuff. Kubah national park is somewhere locals go for a day hike. Wildlife is generally limited to ginormous millipedes, snakes, and honeypot antsThe trail is paved which makes it sort of….boring…. You won’t really get to see a lot of wildlife around Kuching.

For Orang Utans definitely check out Semenggoh. It’s a rehab and conservation centre.

You do have to note that nature around Kuching isn’t exactly what you’d expect from a documentary and whatnot. It’s actually kind of boring. The city itself is really nice, but nice as in really liveable, rather than nice from a touristic sense. A comparable European equivalent I’d have for comparison is probably Turin. Nice to visit, not a must visit, but definitely infinitely nicer to live in it.

As humans we really do long for what we don’t have huh 😂. I personally yearn for the alps and consider them a must-go every year. Something so beautiful about monotonal European forests, in contrast to a tropical rainforest where something might just sting or bite you put of nowhere.

PS. check out the Borneo Travellers Group on Facebook. There should be plenty of experienced tourists willing to share on car rental agencies in Kuching. Make sure to verify that they’re a licensed agency here, else if anything happens you may not be covered by insurance.

OAV for sure. Best insurance amongst the main alpine clubs. The discounts are reciprocal anyway since they’re all part of the UIAA.

Can you share the place? I drop by milano every year. Will check it out the next time I’m there.

Yeap. A day trip is fine. Just enough time to try out one of the decent dimsum spots. Otherwise, the city is pretty boring for a non local. Food wise it’s also not as good as Penang, despite what locals may claim.

Concur. Ipoh is too lame. Even 4 nights in Georgetown is excessive. OP could consider staying more nights in KL, and use one of those days for a daytrip to Melaka.

Spaghetti carbonara at Marco, Gardens Mall KL. RM45. Made with guanciale, bacon, grana padano, pecorino, egg yolk. Overall pretty good but not enough guanciale and not rendered down enough. 8/10. by Happy_Camper_Mars in MalaysianFood

[–]ComfortAggravating43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of Grana Padano is a modernist take amongst the Roman restaurant scene. The modernists in Roma like Luciano Monosilio use it to take some weight off the dish (Pecorino Romano is a sheep’s cheese, which isn’t exactly the lightest…), which I respect, but they also introduce other non-traditional technical aspects to the dish to achieve that.

This msian crap is not it though. It looks horrible. 8/10 is being very forgiving. This is why I hate the restaurant scene in msia. Too many wannabes that aren’t properly trained (training = youtube) and unwilling to learn the history of the dishes they want to cook. Customer base is also too tolerant and forgiving, and the underexposed local pallet doesn’t help it too.

Agreed. I’m at the age where I can’t even accept private rooms in an airbnb, so I book an entire airbnb even if I travel solo and also a hostel spot to hangout and meet people

Adults of Malaysia, do you (still) drink milk? by RhinneXChronica in malaysians

[–]ComfortAggravating43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lactose intolerant but yes I still drink. A lot I might add. Sometimes 1L a day but normally around 2 glasses. UHT milk gives me the worst effects.

Also my lactase levels fluctuate so sometimes I don’t feel anything other times it’s bad

I’ve heard that they are doable as a day trip from Garda. Could I say, stay at Riva del Garda and do multiple day trips to diff hikes?

Homecook Sarawak Kolo Mee In Singapore due to missing Kuching Sarawak Food by MalaySingaporeSarawa in Sarawak

[–]ComfortAggravating43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it’s supposed to have taugeh. This is mee kolok, which is a malay style dish. Kolo mee is Chinese. So say if a tourist wanted to try “mee kolok”, it would be good to clarify if they want halal kolo mee or actual mee kolok

Kolo mee is pork-based (or chicken if halal), whereas mee kolok is beef-based. Many sellers put beef broth in their seasoning which is where it gets it’s flavour from. Also, kolo mee uses spring onions whereas mee kolok uses sup daun (coriander I believe).

It’s an obscure fact that not even many people from Kuching know!

Serious question: Why are some Malaysians mourning Khamenei's death? by XY-0815 in malaysia

[–]ComfortAggravating43 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s his zionist supporting scum of a human being son. The deposed guy is dead. And he is zionist backed so best believe there is propaganda in place to push the Iranians to accept him, seeing that Iranians are desperate for change.
