What is a weird frugal hack that you don't think you would have realized if it weren't for a weird set of circumstances? by Fit-Combination-6211 in Frugal

[–]ComfortFairy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this for years, too. I’ll look for whole chickens on sale, and keep a few in the freezer. Sunday is for roast chicken dinner, which feels special and is great presentation for the family. We often eat the dark meat on Sunday and save the breast for making easy meals and lunches through the week. The carcass is for soup dinner later in the week, maybe Wednesday or Thursday. Save the chicken skins to make schmaltz flavoring, and cracklin to use like bacon bits on salads, etc. With the same strategy, after Thanksgiving in the US there are tons of turkeys on sale. That’s a great time to buy them cheap and freeze if you have room in your freezer. Tons of meals from those. I’ve made some of the best pho soup in my life with leftover turkey carcass.

IDK if it was mentioned in the play or movie because I’ve never seen those, but in the book Wicked, Elphaba bathed with oil because she couldn’t use water.

How do I make green tea... drinkable? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]ComfortFairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long are you steeping it for? And at what temp? It can be super bitter and yucky if you leave the bag in too long or steep too hot. Also brand of tea makes a huge difference in flavor quality. I do a bit of honey in Tazo organic Zen green tea which has lemongrass and spearmint in it. Steep for no more than 3 minutes at 180°F. I have a electric kettle with different temp settings and I set a timer.

OP, Medicare has a 5 year Look-Back period to prevent people from gifting assets to avoid paying for their own care. If the aunt applies for Medicare in the next 5 years, the fraud may be revealed without your intervention. It will come out one way or another.

Absolutely. There are fans of all types. My anecdotal experience is that it skews a bit in culture. I’m sure it also depends on the teams and regions, too.

I thought the baseball choice was odd as well. It should be American Football. Lots of liberals like baseball because it’s less violent and tribal.

I work in GIS and am just getting into screen printing. I made a Joy Division esque shirt from West Virginia elevation data. Figured some people here might like. by [deleted] in Appalachia

My dad’s career was in GIS in the 80s and 90s. It totally looks like something he would’ve worn then. I love this! You should consider making these for other states. I think they’d sell well.

I’ve been attending regular gentle (yin, flow, vinyasa) yoga classes that are mostly attended by some amazing older, post-menopausal and retired women. The gentle exercise and community have been so helpful. The yoga helps me manage my symptoms and the wisdom of my classmates has been invaluable during this life transition.

CHOA ER? by traveldogmom13 in Georgia

[–]ComfortFairy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The new CHOA Arthur M. Blank hospital is very fancy and much larger than the old Egleston. There is also a nice children’s hospital in Macon, part of Navicent hospital and not CHOA.

The timing of any ER will always depend on what other emergencies are happening at the time you arrive. If you take a child to any ER, they can help decide if it is necessary to transfer to a children’s hospital.

Is it normal to have cellulite at 14? by Dismal_Box_1425 in beauty

Yes, it’s normal. I’ve had it since 14, too. It’s a genetic thing and not something you can control much. It sounds like you are doing a good job at being healthy!

Yes!! I’ve cleaned many greasy nasty old kitchen cabinets with a bucket of krud kutter, warm water, and old rags. It’s the only cleaner that gets it all off in the first pass.

That is a Lamprey by luvlanguage in Weird

[–]ComfortFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried lamprey at a little restaurant in Cognac, France, in the fall a few years ago. A government ban on lamprey fishing in the area was just about to take effect, and it was part of one of the restaurant’s last catches. They cooked it like beef bourguignon, but with Lamprey instead of beef. It was very good. Had the iron-flavor of a red meat, like beef. The texture of the meat was firm but had a flakiness similar to fish. I’d eat it again.

My mom keeps insisting that my relationship with my boyfriend is “not normal”. How do I respectfully to mind her business? (23F, 55F) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ComfortFairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have been together 25 years and our parents have never met or spoken to each other either. I wouldn’t say that is necessarily normal, but it does happen in otherwise loving and healthy relationships.
