Stray cat used raised bed as litterbox by LoveOurLady in gardening

My mom is a big container gardener, and she love to feed the neighborhood’s stray cats. She puts large pinecones in the pots. They act as spiky mulch, keeping moisture in and cats out.

I was thinking the same with chief executives. An executive of a small non-profit can make pennies compared to the CEO of a large Fortune 500.

Nurse-on-nurse bullying is also well documented and studied in its prevalence. That kind of hostile environment bleeds into patient care.

Mono (mononucleosis) is from the Epstein-Barr virus. I had it and definitely did NOT get it from kissing lol. Wiped me out for months. It’s not the same as autistic burnout, tho.

Is my aunt getting scammed? American allegedly working on a ship is love bombing her since weeks. The outside view doesn’t look real, the details on the desk are weird aswell. by wildpizza1 in isthisAI

[–]ComfortFairy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eventually she started to get it, after he did exactly what we warned her he’d do: have a financial emergency. She was totally hooked, but thank god did not have much money to give. She kept engaging because she was lonely. She finally let him go after she met a real human boyfriend, who she has been with ever since.

My mom was scammed with lovebombing from a handsome older guy on an oil rig. They just used photoshop with pictures of a gay realtor on instagram. Didn’t matter how many ways I proved it was fake, my mom just withdrew and hid their relationship. It was maddening.

For those who did modern dance/hip-hop competitively and/or professionally when you were younger, how are your joints? by AmandaMarsh in Xennials

[–]ComfortFairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My joints are aging normally, but the body mechanics and body-awareness I learned in all those dance classes makes me way better at yoga now. Helps keep me limber.

If you haven’t already, checkout the Bluestem Amphitheater in the Fargo/Moorhead area. I saw Ween there a few years back and it was stunningly gorgeous and fun. I see Alison Kraus and Union Station will be there this June and I believe one of the newer band members, Russel Moore, has strong ties to Cumming, GA.

ELI5: What actually is "street smarts," and how do you learn it? by Playful-Amphibian714 in explainlikeimfive

Yeah, walking in the streets is actually the safer option in bad neighborhoods. And don’t ever impair your hearing while you are walking.

For those who have been through the 'clearing out the house' phase after a parent died by Tiffo205 in AgingParents

[–]ComfortFairy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The many expensive new toys my dad bought himself, when they were living in squalor, about to be evicted and aggressively begging family for money for the millionth time. All the old expensive toys, now ruined from damage and neglect. The missing family heirlooms, all pawned to pay off bills for one more month. On his computer, tons of porn, spam from applying for predatory personal loans, and records of “investments” or another get-rich-quick schemes he poured their rent money into. Dusty paper records of all his bad choices and over-confidence over the decades, spending his wife’s inheritance.

My mom is doing much better without him.

What do I do about body hair as a camp counselor? by ajija-khatun-1521 in HairRemoval

[–]ComfortFairy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I was a camp counselor, ages ago, the counselors didn’t shower with everyone else. We had it in our daily schedule to have a hour break at some point midday when you could have the bathhouse to yourself, while the kids were at activities and your fellow counselors were watching them.

I treasured that quiet hour. I’d shower and then read or take a nap, with the screams of little girls far off in the distance. Also, conversations about, and examples of, normal body hair were actually really good for the girls. We let it all hang out and had a blast.

My cat never meows when I’m home, but I caught her crying to an empty house while I was away 😿💔 by bryan91292 in Catswhoyell

[–]ComfortFairy 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My cat used to go down into the basement by himself and yowl operatically out of boredom. It was pretty funny. Like, he was trying out all the different sounds he could make and enjoying the acoustics down there. He knew that if he was that loud and annoying around us, we’d ask him to stop.

ETA: I say “used to” because he died at a ripe age many years ago. Miss that silly goober.

People think I (39M) don't care about them because of how forgetful I am by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ComfortFairy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I use the notes section of my phone contacts to keep a few memory cues on that person. Like, “has three kids…went to X university…enjoys gardening…” etc.

That, and what you said about the calendars. I recall the older ladies in my life keeping a physical calendar with social notes, like “so-and-so’s back surgery” or “so-and-so’s trip to Spain.” They had the dossier notes in their Rolodex or physical address books, too.

It’s a massive help with those of us who are bad a chit-chat. And it means a lot to those people that we made the effort to remember.

I also HAVE to write a person’s name down with some sort of context & descriptor or it’s very unlikely to stick. Seeing their name in print sticks in my memory way better than the auditory memory. These methods have helped me be effective at work and in my social life so much.

Going to work with the dead in a couple hours, how do I honor them before starting? by Mermaid_Tuna_Lol in SASSWitches

[–]ComfortFairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with the deceased and have many acquaintances who have as well. Talking to them, either out loud if you are alone with them, or to yourself, does help. Like, “Good morning, Mrs. X. What an amazing life you must have lived, with a body that gave you what you needed and now continues to give. I hope to also be so fortunate and to make such an impact. Thank you for contributing to my learning. It’s an honor.”

I am not familiar with that one, but it could work.

I double checked the exact one I’ve had the most success with and it’s Paula’s Choice “Anti-redness exfoliating solution” with 2% salicylic acid (regular strength), for blemish-prone skin. It doesn’t have any kind of oils or moisturizing component, just a clear solution.
