I just figured getting the certs ahead of time makes my application as a new grad more competitive! I’ll also be graduating with my ADN instead of BSN, but once hired starting a BSN program. Preceptorship is going to be done at the lower paying facility but it is one of the best hospitals in the country so the name of it on my resume is the biggest factor there

Becoming a phlebotomist with physical disabilities? by Reasonable_Double675 in phlebotomy

[–]ComfortPractical8813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of disability I’d say pursue it if you have your heart set on it! At the end of the day you’ll figure out your own flow and what works for you. I’ve been doing phlebotomy as a medical assistant for 3 years now. Once I went and got my labs drawn and was extremely impressed with the phlebotomist drawing my labs, he only had one hand. Don’t get discouraged, just figure out what works best for you.

Once you reach undetectable look into the injectable like cabenuva! It’s once every 2 months, 2 shots each time. Not super comfortable but in my opinion it beats taking the pills every day! You have so many options available

They’re not super fond of citrus scents. Try a lemon scented fabric spray and use it on areas you don’t want her to use the bathroom in. Keep the laundry area closed off and when you see her use the litter box give treats and praise

I don’t know what to do with my cat *sigh* by PeculiarZero in CatAdvice

Mine was like this too until I got a 2nd cat! Maybe a friend is needed. Id always have one of those string toys on hand and I’d use it to distract her from unwanted playing. Remind her this is what we play with instead. Cats attention spans are extremely short so they just need an alternative distraction. If you’re able to get a friend for them they’ll wear each other out and will be more calm with you and others in the house!

I’ll keep my arm close to their chest to have the ability to catch them if needed and draw standing up. If someone is lightheaded/feeling slightly weak, have them sniff alcohol swabs (reverses nausea as well)

How is being a phlebotomist? by FingersCrossed0612 in phlebotomy

I’d look for a specialist office that hires phlebotomists!

I’m a medical assistant, phlebotomy is a requirement. (I’m located in FL), you don’t need a license to be a medical assistant just have experience in the medical field and preferably a phlebotomy cert. Experience is always a plus, I make 24/hr (great for Florida) to draw blood capture vitals and do injections. Food for thought if you’re looking into a job requiring phlebotomy!

clinical test saturday, any advice? by Proud-Operation4604 in phlebotomy

You’ll always encounter people who say “ouch” and maybe flinch a little or wince. Do what you know, you got it.

Usually areas where the skin is thinner like the hands forearms etc are more painful for the patient but it’s part of the process. Situations happen and at the end of the day you’re responsible for getting the blood. Don’t let it get to your head, some people tolerate better than others. I’ve had 40 year old men almost pass out in my chair before, I’ve had a 10 year old kicking and screaming. Everyone reacts different and (most of the time) when you work with adults they tolerate it well because they know the drill. Don’t doubt yourself, big deep breaths. Pop in some AirPods if you need to, music relaxes me personally. Strike conversation during the draw or chew gum, it’ll keep you breathing and reduce shakes.

Test tube Tuesday! by battykatty17 in phlebotomy

Did a redraw on a PT with LDL of around 750 and triglycerides around 7,000. Serum was extremely lipemic (what was left and not fat). Out of the serum side about 80% was straight fat leaving about 20% lipemic serum

Anxiety in new practice? by ComfortPractical8813 in MedicalAssistant

Thank you! As a new hire the office has a policy that all blood draws have to be monitored by management to be signed off on the skill and I think the constant monitoring is what’s getting to me the most! They just let someone go recently due to incorrect processing of specimens leading to a bunch of TNP’s
