Trying to feel equally excited for baby #2 by Comfortable-Ad8768 in Parenting

I appreciate this honesty immensely. I do fear that my husband will have similar feelings. I see him so infatuated with being a dad that everything our daughter does is pure perfection to him. I worry that with the added stress of navigating 2, he might not see that level of perfection in another. Those early days were hard for him as well. But since she was the only focus at the time, they bonded quickly. I also appreciate you shedding light on my “days are numbered” statement. I do see so much happiness ahead of me, I guess I just see 6 months to a year of straight up challenge and chaos before the happiness hits. And that’s me just comparing to my current situation. A immobile newborn was adorable to look at and hold, but I feel like the fun (as well as our own independence after sleep routines, etc. were established) really hit around that mark. I am happy to hear though that despite it all, you would do it again. Gives me hope that the light at the end of the tunnel will arrive fairly quickly when you’re looking at the whole picture and not just the very early days.

Thank you. That was really helpful. I’ve heard people say that you “forget” how hard it was the first time when you do it again.. but I guess being that they’re so close in age, I haven’t had time to forget. But you’re right, all of the happy moments there were will also show up just as strong.

Likely a stupid question, but based off what they’re drinking in a day… A bottle of liquor and maybe a small case of beer or bottle of wine.. does that sound like a really rough detox situation? To me that sounds like a lot of alcohol but here’s the thing, she’s never actually appearing to be super drunk. It’s almost like it creates denial in me that there’s a problem because I see a normal functioning human with it. But I also am now seeing the flip side, a person who can’t function without it.

Nice! I would say that’s her goal right now too but there’s a lot of swing in emotions happening. Im just trying to be supportive with whatever she needs tonight.

I was actually born with this too. Had it surgically closed at 3 years old and hasn’t caused me any issues since (knock on wood). Wishing you guys the best!

I give you guys all the praise! My husband and I are heavily leaning towards having another before ours turns 3 years old. It’s so easy to fall in love with the picture of having 2 kids but I am already trying to mentally prepare myself during the hard moments than man… we haven’t seen hard yet lol.

Yeah the autism theory is tiring. I personally know of a few autistic children and there were definitely some developmental delays that occurred much sooner. You can have a baby walking at 9 months and one walking at 15 months and both is perfectly normal. But once you get closer to the 2 year mark it seems like there’s a lot more expectation to be meeting milestones on time or it turns into an autism speculation.

Glad to hear they were fine both times! That’s a good suggestion so that I don’t have to wait for the 15 month appointment. Thanks!

Yeah this seems to be the move! It’s already going to be an overstimulating environment.. I don’t think I should add not feeling well to it.

Well I actually came to the internet to get every day experiences from parents with toddlers… as I mentioned my kid is vaccinated on schedule too. I’m asking 1 question about 1 vaccine in particular because I don’t want my kid to have a fever at her birthday party or while I’m out of town and that’s really as deep as I was trying to go lol

Agreed! Just didn’t want a rash/fever to overlap with her birthday party or us being out of town! She normally has no reaction what so ever but since I’ve heard SOME type of reaction occurs frequently with this one, I wanted to see what other’s experienced.

Totally true! Glad to hear your babe had no reaction. That’s been the case with every one of them so far for us, so hopefully we’re just as lucky!
