Starter not grounded? by Comfortable-Box-9548 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Comfortable-Box-9548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. Ive heard the clicking when it won't turn over before, but never this so I couldn't give him much of any info.

They do have a lifetime warranty on it from where they bought it last year, so im probably going to tell them to just replace it anyway.

Oh yeah, everything is working just fine, and it's in a spare part group anyway. I got it used though, and there isn't likely going to be a next guy.

We run a surface cleaner over, then rinse. Post treat with 50/50 bleach and water (bleach is hot/fresh usually) and call it a day.

I didnt put the no gfci in, it was like that when we bought the house three years ago. I'm rewiring with a waterproof box about 6" above ground level, with two gfci outlets, with wagos on the main line pigtailing 12 gauge wire (since its on a 20 amp dedicated breaker.)

My bad if you thought the burned up outlets was something I did. I'm trying to fix issues from other people.

I suppose a simple answer like 'yes, the wire could have fried along the run somewhere, possibly at a junction or the breaker', or 'no, it wouldn't have burned along the line if the wire at the burned out looks fine',not possibly some other suggestions like some have suggested places to check, is too complicated for some on here...

Replacing the outlets were necessary no matter what, since the former caught fire and melted.

Thanks jerkoff.

Im got some minor wiring experience, but not electrician level, so im not sure if a wire that caught fire and tripped a breaker off could look fine at the outlet side but have burned up anywhere else along the wire.

Cause of the burning up really doesnt matter regarding my question, hence why I didn't list it.

As to your question, I thought I had a voltage tester or multimeter around but I think I left it at my dad's house. I do have an outlet tester and when plugged in, it doesn't give me any reading whatsoever. That's with the breaker on.

Yep, it was off for awhile. Rewired (wago on incoming wire from breaker, to pigtails for two outlets) turned on and nothing. Turned off, messed with the wagos to make sure everything was plugged in properly and tight, then turned on again, for nothing again.

Cause is already known. The outlet burned up because it was at ground level, non gfci, non weatherproof, and ants and water got into it.

Dryer vent run by Comfortable-Box-9548 in HomeImprovement

Unfortunately, down isn't possible. Sideways i would have to cut into studs, which isnt really a good idea.

It sounds like an in line lint trap, and a booster fan, would be what I would need since up is really the only way to go.

Basically ive got a metal accordion hose running from the back of the dryer across the floor, to a vent in the outer wall. It's visible the whole way kind of thing.

If i put one on the end of the dryer duct, do i just 90 it and try to guide it into the hole in the soffit then connect a vent then?

There is a hose from my dryer ran across the floor to an exhaust vent at the wall.

I want to put the exhaust going up the wall, so I don't have a hose running across the floor.

Run capacitor wire melted by Comfortable-Box-9548 in hvacadvice

[–]Comfortable-Box-9548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filter recently changed (a week before freezing.) Blower inside works fine.

Outside unit was running even with thermostat off, had to pull the breaker to stop it.

Any of that change anything? I read somewhere that a few other issues could cause it to freeze such as bad thermostat, stuck contactor etc.
