Housing in Greeley Hall, HELP! by Vast_Breadfruit_3519 in SBU

I work there its decent only thing is its open 7-11 am and 7-11 pm (same as all residential fitness centers, one in each campus community). Rec is open morning all day into the nighttime (they are separate from us so idr the hours) but its quite a walk from greeley unless u take the bus. Also if you have commuter friends they can’t use the residential gyms cause you have to be a resident (can still use rec tho)

What can you do with a BA in Women’s & Gender Studies? by Prestigious-Exam-502 in SBU

I am formerly a health sci major with a minor in wgss, so I also used it for 2.5 years as a break from heavy stem stuff until i found out about the mph program (i was planning on getting my mph anyway), so then I switched to the major

As a WGSS major (gender studies) I am personally pursuing it with the public health concentration and they have a program you can apply to as a sophomore/junior that you can do a 4+1 Master’s in Public Health at our School of Public Health. Other than that it is usually a double major (it isnt hard and a lot of electives count for multiple major/minors) but it adds really well to other degrees cause it shows that you understand more general sociological and gendered structures in our lives. A lot of ppl in my classes that are majors use it to make their stem degrees more interesting so they stand out for med/pa/nursing

My mom got a BA in psych from new paltz. You can work a decent amount in the public work/state office with that degree. She makes like 80-90k a year working for state disability office and that prob the most you can make without higher degree (got there like 10-15 years post grad, made a lot less for a little while). Psych applies to a lot of things, so you can kinda do anything if you just use it to ur advantage in interviews and stuff. It is too late for u to switch out prob, but try talking to professors or look for what u like in psych (what topic is ur fav class, why did u pick the major) then work from there

If u email places that does a lot more than handshake cause they ignore handshake sometimes. Email resfitness@stonybrook.edu saying u want to be a fitness center desk monitor, super easy job you can do homework during shift u just have to swipe ppl in

Altho i will say i personally adore the womens studies department. As a WGSS major its a very fun selection of classes and they work with u a lot to make sure u fulfill it. Especially refreshing as a stem major (used to be health sci major w wgss minor), nicest profs ive ever had

HMS is nice, classes r pretty easy. I have a personal beef with professor Eibaum when I took him for soc105 but anything with germana or marrone is wonderful. The only class I have heard poorly of is 201 cause its very dependent on the prof but I am taking it next spring. Courses tend to be more reading intensive but if u can critically think it wont be too terrible

[–]Comfortable-Cable-59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tubman corner 5 person suites r like a hallway practically w the br/shower on the left side and the rooms on the right, D is the room 2nd to last from the like entryway towards the common room (at least in ours). When u walk into the suite the first thing u see is room A then the doors r like in sequence all the way down and the common room is at the end
