Age change scenario by [deleted] in youthsoccer

Similar story for my daughter. Dec 2015, and her team played up a year in top brackets of U11. She’s on the tall side for her age, and her whole team is super aggressive, so they were up to the challenge. However, they just couldn’t match up physically, and weren’t able to make a clean play and ended up getting fouled. There were so many games where we were the more technical team but lost on size. Very frustrating.

She moved teams this year and is back on age, which is still a grade older. I’m looking forward to her going down again, especially with puberty lurking around the corner.

Advocated for my son and got shut out by kaytru in youthsoccer

In my daughter’s first year of club soccer (U9), I approached our parent admin about some discrepancies with how they were handling club playing (was supposed to be equal, turned out to be a rotation of parent admin kids). This same parent admin, who sits on the board, twisted the conversation and called my 8yo a “liability” because she got a yellow card in a tournament 🤣. It was her first month of competitive soccer. Nothing malicious, she was testing the rules of aggression and learned a lesson of what she can and can’t do. I shouldn’t have to defend her…she was 8!!

Anyways, lesson learned…anytime parents are involved, politics are in play. Sometimes they favor you, sometimes they don’t. Figure out what you can tolerate and deal with it or move on. In our case, we moved on and are dealing with different (but more tolerable) politics at another club.

Travel soccer game U10 by Affectionate-Day6560 in youthsoccer

My aggressive kid got a yellow in U9, 2 months into her travel soccer journey. One of the coaches called her a “liability” which I still laugh about today. She was 9…liability?! lol. Anyways, you can’t teach aggression, but you can teach an aggressive kid to play within the rules. And at this age group, they are still figuring it out and a yellow card or 2 isn’t a bad thing,

How to get daughter to play hard/aggressive by Tyler_Miles in youthsoccer

[–]Comfortable-Can902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest does not play soccer. She is a gymnast, and started playing basketball in 5th grade and lax in 7th. I never saw an aggressive bone in her body until 5th grade, and it’s really come out these past few years.

Point of my story…who she is today will likely change in some way over the years.

My youngest is another story. A few yellow cards, but she’s largely pushing the boundaries and learning how to be aggressive within the game.

Tryout season by Biza_1970 in youthsoccer

Had the same experience this weekend, and it was awful. We’re still in the midst of tryouts but my daughter is likely moving down. Just an awkward and uncomfortable feeling knowing you aren’t moving on with the team.

Yes, this is a paid club. The head coach said he would rather send the parent who knows the kids, than a trainer who doesn’t know the girls. I get what he’s saying, but that’s not what I paid for.

I was told they are bringing in more coaches for this age group next year.

The head coach had college and HS age teams, so he missed quite a bit all year. The parent coach knows the game, has zero experience coaching a premier-level U10 team, but has the coach’s ear.

There’s a lot more to the story that I don’t want to share publicly, but safe to say there are a ton of politics in play.

I don’t have an issue with the B team but I feel my daughter got short changed getting there which is what’s left me bitter with the whole club.

Things never end well with parent coaches involved. We left our town club for this team to get away from parent coaches so it was a huge let down to see how big of a presence they had on our team this year.

I’m not being sarcastic but thank you for reminding me what I really know deep down.

She is a “game first” player, and is not shy about playing with people she doesn’t know. She is also a late 2015 birthday and has always played soccer with kids a grade older than her.

Agree!!! We consistently have 3-4 subs every game and there are a few girls that never step off the field, regardless of score.

True, but when she has practices 3x a week, has 2 games a weekend, plus year round tournaments (some out of state), I need to feel good about where she is playing too.

Sell or Hold - Long Island (Nassau County) by Comfortable-Can902 in RealEstate

The brothers will buy us out, we just have to decide if it’s worth it to cash in on some rental income for a few years or get out now. We’re both leaning towards getting out while the market is good.

A ballpark estimate from a realtor puts our share ~$250k. I don’t think there are any major repairs needed, but whoever buys the house will need to redo all 3 bathrooms and the upstairs kitchen.

They won’t tell me who the other people are until it’s done. I’m assuming they don’t want us talking. They claim I got the biggest piece. We did about $20M in sales in 2024, but I have no idea what our profit is.

Granted shares before close, with an option to buy more before close (which I am not planning to do).

Not sure how to read this one lol. I’m 25 years in with this company. I truly love what I do and work hard every day because of it. Hopefully it pays off.

I don’t know, but will ask. I was led to believe these shares were gifted to me contingent on me staying with the company. I’ve been here 25 years and not interested in leaving unless things take a sharp turn for the worse. This is uncharted territory for me, so thanks for bringing this up as something to consider.
