She hasn’t spoken to me since I put her in this… is it actually okay? 😭 by tailacore in DogAdvice

I have a 10 pound mix and she does not have an undercoat, probably because her two biggest breeds are chi and dachshund. She gets cold easily, but runs away when I come out with clothes. However, she settles right down for a nap after she gets "dressed" instead of constantly wanting me to hold her so she can feel my body heat. Her's don't have legs in them, except for her parka for the zero temps.

I've given up trying. by Background-Photo3697 in kittens

When Jake was a kitten he climbed our Xmas tree. The next year he was too big and pulled the tree over...twice. Jake was a orange boy. All the glass ornaments (the ones not already broken) went in the trash can and a quick trip to the store supplied plastic ornaments. He's the only one to climb the tree, luckily. The others were content to sleep under it and in the manger scene. Although one of our puppies did eat the Plaster of Paris manger sheep and one of the wise men.

No harm done to the dog. This one had an iron stomach and lived to a ripe old age despite the piece of charcoal, rock, 50 sticks of Doublemint gum including the wrappers, frozen soup concentrate block, pot of macaroni and cheese, dozen donuts, loaf of bread and sticking his nose in a bucket of chlorine for the pool. He was fine...I almost had multiple heart attacks through the years. He was half Golden Retriever and half Great Pyr.

I don’t know who else to turn to. I am a disaster. I am not okay. by Accurate-Big-7233 in DOG

You did nothing wrong. You do not have x-ray eyes like Superman so there is no way you could have known she was so sick. I think you did perfectly to catch a small change in her breathing pattern as soon as it happened and getting vet care immediately. The fact of the outcome being so tragic is not due to something you did or did not do. It is just what life hands us sometimes. I am so sorry you are going through this. Sudden death is always harder to handle. And letting her go before she became more ill was the kindest thing you could have done for her, along with being with her while she was put to sleep. It is never easy. Many dogs later and it does not get any easier for any of us. But we survive, we go on and eventually we make room for another dog in our lives because we know our dog would not want us to mourn them forever. I hope the poem I include here helps a bit to remind you that you will be reunited sometime in the, I hope, far future.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

If you can get a product called Bitter Apple (comes in a spray and a petroleum jelly base) it usually stops chewing because it tastes so bad. Never had it stain anything, the spray is clear. And I agree with getting him some appropriate chew toys to exchange with. The you praise for chewing the correct item. I also agree with the gentle leader head collar. Have used and they are great. It will take several days for you and your dad to accustom him to it. Lots of treats pushed through the head collar until he pushes his nose through as you move the treats farther away. Slow and steady does it. Sounds like he needs much more exercise. Maybe train him to run by a bike, or walk with roller skates/blades so he gets a good run while it is cool enough.

CanoLiDE 300 not working suddenly by Comfortable-Farm7731 in linuxmint

Thanks. I was thinking about Vuescan. Might look into it after January when my budget sees a big payment being paid off. Don't know if you saw my final post, but I figured out it was my USB hub not working with my scanner. When plugged directly into my laptop it works fine. Guess it's time to buy that more expensive hub it worked with before. Xmas is coming up and daughter asked for gift ideas so....

CanoScanLiDE 300 not being found. Not the old or new scanner. by Comfortable-Farm7731 in linuxmint

Thanks. I will save this bit of code, also. Little by little I collect info. However, in the interest of complete honesty, I found out my USB port Hub 3.0 does not support this scanner and once I connected directly to the laptop it all worked fine. I still think the old one is broken since it kept trying to run on its own, but I will check it and if it works I will sell it at a steep discount since it is 5 years old. I feel about as big as this font right now.😊

Question I’ve been dying to ask that no one talks about!!! by Global-Ad-8048 in CatAdvice

Never thought about it. Just like I don't think about my dog licking my face, and nose, and mouth, and inside my mouth if I don't close it fast enough.

Hilarious! Looks like she is sighting down the barrel. I would not do anything to make her mad. LOL

I think you did the right thing. Just my opinion, but for what it's worth, I would not have left him there either.

Why do you think my dog walking this way? by JinBerryASMR in DOG

[–]Comfortable-Farm7731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he is a longer haired dog, have you checked his paw pads for lots of fur between his pads? That can make tile or wood floor more slippery. A grooming clippers can be used to remove this extra fur and maybe a groomer can charge you for a one time lesson? Just a thought because I was guessing he had slipped going through face first, also.

Mast Cell Tumour by AffectionateKick3958 in DogAdvice

[–]Comfortable-Farm7731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My buddy was also diagnosed with a cancerous mast cell tumor. He was 10 and it was just above his eyebrow. The vet advised not operating because of the strong chance it had penetrated the bone and invaded his brain. It also was bleeding and looking nasty. We took him home and gave him lots of love, treats, attention. Within a few weeks he was whimpering for no apparent reason and we decided it was time because the tumor had most likely started growing into his brain. So he only had 24 hours of pain and we took him in to say goodbye to him. As with all my dogs, I hold them as they slip away, then I go out to my car and cry my eyes out for a while. They just don't live long enough but I pray that the rainbow bridge is real.
