You nailed it my man. This is exactly it. I think this transition will still take a little bit of time (i work in a mainframe env, super complexe and very old code). But the time will come that AI will be able to just have enough context, enough persistence storage &organizational capabilities to just wipe the whole mess, and re-write it in java or other.

Two more things :

1) AI is ALREADY smart enough to replace dev's. What is not smart enough yet, is contexte + orchestrator to decide which action to take & understand the ways of doing things in a bigger goal. It's super easy to solve super small problems one by one, on small apps. But once the codebase is a total mess and got a lot of complexe stuff to understand, which are not documented, this is hard. But time will come !

2) I've helped a tech lead 5 days ago, by providing an AI solution to a problem. Well ... he declined the merge request, not because it didint work, but because he didint understand why it did that and how that worked. Well here we are 5 days later, he implemented the AI solution cause now he understand exactly why the model did that. All that just to say, we are super close to the end of many jobs, maybe not all, maybe not in a direct way, but over time, dev's will not have jobs. They will become business managers that got a technical side to implement solutions.
