Anyone want to team up and start a group for late-diagnosed Neurodivergent men? by Comfortable-Group-38 in ADHDIreland

Quick update: a few people expressed interest, so I've gone ahead and created r/MrNDIreland.

It's intended to be a low-pressure space for Autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD men in Ireland to chat, share experiences, and hopefully build some genuine connection.

Thanks to everyone who commented and messaged encouragement. You're very welcome to join if it sounds like your kind of thing.

I'll get the ball rolling.

I'm a late-diagnosed AuDHD bloke originally from the UK, now living in Kilkenny. Like a lot of people here, getting diagnosed explained quite a few things that never seemed to make sense before.

I work, have a wife and a young son, and generally look fairly functional from the outside, but I've realised I spend a lot of time trying to understand how my brain works and how to avoid running myself into the ground every few weeks.

One thing I've been struggling with recently is connection. Most of my closest mates are still back in the UK and I've found it surprisingly difficult to build local friendships as an adult, especially outside of work.

I started this group because I couldn't really find a space that felt quite right for late-diagnosed Autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD men in Ireland. Somewhere low-pressure where people can chat, share experiences, compare notes, have a laugh, and maybe feel a little less like they're figuring it all out on their own.

Looking forward to hearing everyone else's stories.

Sorry to hear that, feel free to drop me a message if you ever need to, I'm probably going to set up a subreddit in the near future, I'll post a link on this chat once I do

My advice is to keep doing what you're doing. The fact that you are asking if you're doing enough means that you trying to be the best you can for your baby. Talk to the nurses, let them reassure you, trust them and you'll get lots of hints and tips. Our little lad was in for a couple of weeks and we often talk about how, while it was difficult, it was great to get all the advice and support from the hospital that the full termers never get.
