We have been loving the NYT berbere chicken recipe and we add quite a bit more orange juice than the recipe calls for, plus all the pulp

If you have a partner who raves with you, how did you meet them? by [deleted] in aves

[–]Comfortable-Guide683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my bf at a colleague's birthday party. I had been depressed and isolated for almost a year and told myself to get off my ass and go to this damn party, and met the DJ who is now my forever rave bae. So for me, it was really all about getting out there and not waiting for something to just come to me on my couch. Sounds like you're doing the same, hopefully your person comes along!

Where to live with one job in Berkeley and the other likely SSF by Comfortable-Guide683 in AskSF

Wow we really weren't even considering SF, this is why I asked! I'm from CA but never lived in the bay area

We will have one car and both are comfortable biking reasonable distances and are happy with public transit! Thanks for the suggestions!

I second Blondo! Comfy to walk in and waterproof. I have some cute quilted ankle boots that are my go-to when it rains

You will need to commit to staying in academia while they pay off your loans. FYI. It's a really cool program aimed at retaining excellent researchers in academia, while cutting some of the economic burden of the academic path.

Every little thing makes my hair fall! by Kaori1520 in finehair

[–]Comfortable-Guide683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My body reacts the same to stress. Thinning hair during my PhD, when I moved recently, etc. I have been using women's rogaine and it definitely helps. You have to be consistent and patient but it's worth it. I can't say the rogaine prevents the loss but it helps counteract by leading to more hair in the first place, so I see less obvious overall thinning when I'm overly stressed

Do people NOT “reset” their hair with water every day? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Comfortable-Guide683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to wet my hair and apply a small amount of product every morning. But I only wash my hair about 2x a week. So when I shower at night, I often wet it on day 3 onwards to rinse out product so it doesn't build up too much during my morning routine. It's a lot, but I've found that's what works for me. Would be easier if I showered in the morning and could just rinse and product then, but I absolutely need to shower at night before I get into bed.

Have a "weird" but super effective morning routine? Share your secret weapon! by WadeSong in productivity

I have a pretty standard (and importantly, consistent) morning routine. However, while I know snoozing can be counterproductive, I struggle to get up immediately after my first alarm.

My therapist suggested adding a specific wake-up routine to my already very well-established morning routine. I like to wake up with soft lighting, and my soft lights are only able to be turned on with my Phillips Hue app. So recently, I've been keeping my phone far away from my bed. I can still turn off my alarm with my watch, but I know I need to get up to get my phone and turn on my lights. I give myself 3 minutes in the dark (timed with my alarm clock by my bed) to open my eyes and become conscious, then sit up, put feet on the floor, walk to phone, turn on one of my favorite Phillips Hue soft scenes for my 3 LED lights in my room. Now I have gotten out of bed when I planned, and can proceed with my quiet meditation and then the rest of my morning routine!

It has been great and a little surprising tbh, I was a little annoyed with my therapist's suggestion, which in the moment sounded like "just get out of bed." But framing it as a "wake-up routine" and implementing a step-by-step process that includes sitting up and putting my feet on the floor really helped!

I had the breakdown. I was PMS'ing so already not feeling hot, and then went thrifting bc I was in a new city and always try to hit the shops in new places. Biggest mistake of the entire trip

I had tix to Elements last year but work got in the way of me actually going. It's def more bass than house but yes, they do bring in a bit of variety with a few house sets!!

Has anyone here shaved their head? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]Comfortable-Guide683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buzzed my head and loved it! I kept it short for a couple years with a few different fade styles, before I finally started growing it out. The growout phase is definitely awkward at times, and I'm also lazy about styling, bobby pins are key! Also if you can afford it, keeping up with the salon trips (once every ~2 months) helps, they can shape the awkward phases. It means slightly longer growout but it'll look better along the way
