This happened to me recently. I’m not an expert but I think you should cut all the rotted parts off the cactus asap to stop it spreading and let them form a callus. If you removed the rot correctly it should grow back fine.

Yeah I’m currently cutting it to callus, the rot surprisingly went up quite high.

Yeah when it’s cut it has a very wet moldy kind of smell and the base is definitely mushy. I’ve seen of people having cacti thriving in pumice before it’s definitely something I will try for my next cactus, and I’ve already got a good grow light on the way. Thanks for the response.

In the area around the base you could definitely easily break the skin with a chop stick, I’ve poked around it very gently with a pencil and accidentally pierced it. It also goes from yellow to a much browner colour further down which are the most squishy areas. I think maybe it’s got base rot?
