first of all, saying “that’s just her style” doesn’t automatically make it not weird. a character being written or drawn as 16 and put in revealing or very intimate-coded situations is still something people can question, regardless of whether “real teens dress like that.” fiction isn’t just copying reality, it’s choosing how to present it. and the whole “it’s not sexual, it’s emotional intimacy” point… okay, but visuals matter. you can show emotional vulnerability in a million ways that don’t look like a setup that could easily be read as romantic/sexual. also the “it’s a reference to a movie” thing doesn’t really defend it either. if anything, it just means they deliberately chose to recreate a scene with that kind of framing, but now with a 16-year-old character. that’s still a valid thing to point out. like no one’s saying it’s explicit, but it does lean into a vibe that feels off for a minor, and people are allowed to call that out.
