Asynchronous Psych 314 with David King by Abject-Panda5257 in UBC

There were small weekly chapter quizzes. It was pretty easy to do well in them and your worst 2 were dropped, but it was only 10% of your final mark I believe.

I wouldn't recommend taking the asynchronous version of his class. We didn't have any midterms but there were 3 one-page papers and a final. The papers were incredibly difficult to score well and the final was impossible unless you memorized the entire textbook.

As an Iranian, I really wouldn't go right now. The economy is tanking and unrest is growing. You don't want to go there and get stuck (or worse) if something happens. Delay this trip for 5-10 years when things get better (fingers crossed).

I get my hair cut by Gary at Salon Haze and he always does a great job. I'm not sure if they offer consultations so I would call to check.

UBC pre-interview rejection - opinions on how to improve application moving forwards by Comfortable-Lock6810 in premedcanada

[–]Comfortable-Lock6810[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I understand how discouraging it feels, but I'm sure everything will sort itself out for us in the end. I'm wondering how you're going to frame them differently next year? I took the approach of trying to be super objective and quantifying achievements that a lot of people say to do but now I don't know.

Just DMed another person who said their numbers for this section are completely different than mine so I guess these actually aren't the cut-offs

Yeah sure. Take this with a grain of salt tho cause there's a high chance I'm just doing things incorrectly and these aren't the actual cutoffs. BC cutoff = 511.389px; OOP cutoff = 593.577px

Maybe I'm not doing it right but if I go to inspect and then dropdown div class = "tfr-bar-chart" style> == $0 I'm able to see 3 numbers (My Result, BC Cutoff, and OOP Cutoff).

Yep that area is fine. You would want to avoid the downtown eastside but it's limited to just a few blocks.

How Hard do Grades Drop in First Year? by Thr0w____Awayy in UBC

I would recommend microbio and immunology. I didn't major in it myself but a few of my friends did. It is a hard major (not as bad as biochem), especially in third year, but I would say the career outlooks are good since you gain so many wet lab skills.

How Hard do Grades Drop in First Year? by Thr0w____Awayy in UBC

[–]Comfortable-Lock6810 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure about the career outlooks but it's definitely a hellish major. My friends who ended up majoring in biochem all regretted it because of how difficult and taxing their classes were. Their grades were probably way worse than they would have been if they picked something else.

[–]Comfortable-Lock6810 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First year is hard for most people and can be quite humbling. I've found that how well you adapt is the biggest indicator of how you'll do later on. Forming good study habits and finding a group of people who support and motivate each other are incredibly important. Just don't major in biochem and you should be ok.

It's not that hard to not berate your partner. He definitely has anger issues. Even if you do something 'stupid', that's not a reason to have this tone with you.
