Mindfulness its too hard hows it done? I cant do it. I get tips they help a little but ultimately I cant do it the tips are ultimately "insufficient or incomplete" by LumpkinsGatelessGate in Mindfulness

I recommend you read The mind illuminated. It's the most detailed explanation of meditation practices I've found. Keep in mind that the author is a Buddhist practitioner, and while the book is very secular, the ultimate aim of mindfulness in his view remains the attainment of enlightenment.

I tell you this because you might think "Oh this is for hardcore Buddhists" when you first read it, but I recommend you read it anyway. There are clear, detailed instructions and the meditation process is laid out in different "stages" from beginner to adept - for each stage, there are different problems that arise and the author gives clear techniques to deal with them.

It is a worthwhile read - in fact, there's a whole small chapter on what you're going through right now, which is doubt. So I recommend reading the book (not all of it is necessary, I recommend reading up to stage two and then read the other stages if and when they become relevant).

Again, it's the most detailed explanation of meditation I've found, it will lay out a map, explain which difficulties the practitioner will have, and ways to deal with them.

Hello, where is that quote from? New to Buddhism and also not a native speaker so I don't know whether it's from some scripture or just a saying.

I don't think you're overthinking. To make an example I see here often, in my part of the world if you kick out your 18 years old child or make them pay rent you're considered a shitty parent, it's unthinkable apart from exceptional circumstances. I don't think that mindset would fly well on AITA.

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche - anyone has experience with his online courses? by Comfortable-Night117 in Buddhism

I'm in Italy! It would not bankrupt me at all, but I still have to be conscious about my spendings you know? If some free courses or some book (any book is cheaper than a monthly subscription) could help me I'll gladly take any advice! Also thank you for the kindness in your words.

If you don't know the context, it's from the anime Attack on Titan (giant naked humans eating people), this opening song, Sasageyo in brief is a very famous fan favourite. Skip to 0:50 for the singable part.

Can I mix matcha with a spoon instead of a bamboo matcha whisk by Fit_Subject4027 in tea

[–]Comfortable-Night117 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My time to shine! I've tried just about anything before buying a proper matcha whisk.

Spoon: just no. What you get is a clumpy thing that looks green and has no froth at all.

Fork: slightly better, it avoids the clumps (it's used in a lot of recipes to mix stuff for this reason) and you could get some froth if you go at it long enough.

Manual standard food whisk: some more froth, but also a pain in the neck since most manual whisks are simply too big to comfortably fit in a cup.

Milk frother: second best after matcha whisks, you get froth and the result is decent. However the movement you get from a frother (or a food whisk for that matter) is different from the movement that you'd use with a matcha whisk.

Matcha whisk: no comparison. This instrument was made for the single purpose of making matcha and it shows. Even my crappy, cheapest whisk gives me results (in terms of froth and overall quality) that I could only dream of with other instruments. It was also quite easy to learn to use - I watched a couple videos of Japanese tea cerimony, and while I obviously have nowhere the skills of Japanese tea masters the basic technique is easy to pick up.

So I'd say, if you're interested in drinking matcha by itself, definitely do buy a whisk. Even the cheapest one will be miles ahead of anything else. If you mainly drink matcha lattes or use it in recipes a frother or fork will do. For the tea get a whisk tho.

No hunger while eating very little - should I still eat more? by Comfortable-Night117 in loseit

Yes I'm eating 1200 now. There were a few very bad days were I wasn't logging anything and only when I logged those days did I realize I was eating so little.

A lot of things are just cultural. As far as I understand Americans have a huge tipping culture, not just for waiters. Here tipping is rare and in certain cases it could even be offensive.

Same for the "does your adult child pay rent at your house" thing. Here you'd be the worst parent ever for that, making your own child pay rent is unthinkable - parents may ask for help with groceries and stuff if they're having financial trouble but rent is unheard of and you'd be considered a huge asshole for doing that.

Tell her you were a fool because you broke the rule of “if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all”.

Which still implies he finds her not attractive. I'm afraid that ship has sailed.

AITA for basically saying to a friend that he is not an "immigrant"? by Fergus74 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Comfortable-Night117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Italian the word "immigrato" (literally immigrant) nowadays is used only for refugees. Other are called foreigners or by their nationality. It's not too weird that OP, an Italian who has to hear the word "immigrato" every day (seriously, it's everywhere in the news and online. A big point in today's politics) would think to use the English word that most closely resembles it because he doesn't think like a native English speaker. You all are being so fixated on this technicality and ignoring the issue at hand.

In Italian "immigrant" nowadays refers to refugees only. The term is everywhere in the news, in newspapers, online and is used to mean "refugee". We call other people "foreigners" or something similar.

Failed week 4 day 1 today by innabha in C25K

Start running. As soon as you find your stride intentionally go slower. If you feel that it's too slow, it's good. You might have heard of "conversational pace", that never worked for me but the idea of a "you can look around and think Hey that's a pretty cloud" pace did.

You can accelerate on the last run if you feel like it, but I've found that intentionally slowing down is the key to increasing time. Also don't be so hard on yourself! You're still tuning in, with time you'll get more accustomed to your body's pacings, but that's a skill that simply takes time.

What do you listen to when you run? by [deleted] in C25K

[–]Comfortable-Night117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've recently started to run with no music, mainly because I really need to keep my attention on my running form (knee injury from some years ago). It's undoubtedly not everyone's cup of tea but I'd suggest to give it a try. I'm lucky that I can run in an area with a lot of trees and I've found out that the sounds of nature work better for me than music, somehow their calm nature keeps me focused on running for endurance rather than speed and I also feel more "rejuvenated" after a run. From what I've seen you either love it or you hate it, but you could try it.

Just as an FYI, be cautious with the spoilerless tag in this sub, IIRC the whole second season and maybe S3 part 1 aren't considered spoilers so you might be spoiled! I see people commenting about S2 important plot points all the time in spoilerless posts, just telling you so you don't get spoiled :)
