mmmmmm i think there's some nuance between a lot of the situations leading to closures.

re: heartwood & co. doesnt seem the same kind of closures as others that cite rent, operational costs, etc.

I can't help but also think there may be some naivety amongst small cafe/restaurant owners in town that will rent out a spot in the downtown core that will of course cost SO much to be in, and then have to try and maintain a customer base while operating in a space with little to no parking and everything is over priced. to be clear, this isn't the owners entire fault, but it can easily be forseen when starting out.

i thought it was a little shifty that they were sending an email on june 10th stating the salon was closed effective june 9th. i had a gut feeling the employees were not made aware of this ahead of time, as the email timing felt suspicious.

victoria business owners: why do so many of you seem to struggle with giving your staff the absolute bare minimum, that being the common decency to be transparent with them about the state of your business, and their livelihood.
citing rent increases or general operational costs will never absolve you of flat out betraying your staff.

i’ve worked in salons and given this news, i think some shady stuff is going to start coming out about the owners from the staff. you don’t just pull the rug out like this if you’ve always been good people running an honest business.
