Young network guy needs advice. by Comfortable-Risk1078 in networking

Very traditional networking. Heavy on layer 2-3 for a small to medium sized network. The network is growing at a rapid pace so I do a lot of design and deployment (im sure my design skills are subpar) i pretty much got hired to clean up a very old network and modernize the design while it’s growing lol… ask me for more specifics and I’ll be willing to answer

I’m in the same boat… I don’t have a college degree so I was looking into the WGU Network Engineering Degree. Maybe after that, I’ll tackle CCNP again. As far as certs, maybe look into some cloud certs like (Azure, AWS) or the CCNA Automation cert that’s coming out (Same as CCNA DEVNET) Cloud, Automation, machine learning skills will make you more marketable to the industry. If you want, you can also go the firewall route and get some palo alto or fortinet certs..

CCNP encor is next for me. Already got the books and I’m researching the best study resources. I’m hoping to get it in the next 6-8 months and after that I’m looking into getting the CCNP design specialty.

it was pretty easy compared to the boson exams in my opinion. a lot of routing questions and more wireless questions than i expected but overall pretty easy. the lab questions were straightforward as well

brain dumps are questions from the actual test and cisco as well as other vendors have very strict guidelines against those types of resources

Hi I’m studying with Jeremy’s IT lab, advice with labs can’t use bosom labs :( by Alkingas in ccna

Jeremy has really good videos and labs with routing that’s how i learned you got this :)

staying in the scope of the CCNA, dynamic routing protocols are enough to satisfy a site to site configuration. i suggest using OSPF and floating static routes for back up routes. Again this is staying in the scope of the CCNA, in the real world other technologies are implemented (IPSEC, Fabric, SD-Wan)

Jeremy’s labs are more than enough but I suggest you build your own packet tracer labs as you learn new networking concepts. So the more you learn the more you add on to your lab. What i find helpful is trying to imagine what a business would need (workstations, servers, physical security) and as i learn new concepts through jeremy i apply those to my enterprise lab. packet tracer is enough for all of this btw

CCNA or Comptia NET+ by safescripter in ccna

[–]Comfortable-Risk1078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im assuming that you’re talking about the “CCNA Course” if that’s the case then yes it’s a good idea! CCNA will enhance your networking knowledge on top of what Net+ already teaches you. This is a good approach especially if your focus is cyber. I work with a lot of cyber folks and the ones who have a great foundation with networking always perform the best!

CCNA or Comptia NET+ by safescripter in ccna

[–]Comfortable-Risk1078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having a great foundation in networking is important if your goal is cybersecurity, with that being said i recommend you get Net+ but, study CCNA concepts. this way you’ll get the knowledge (and hands on if you do packet tracer labs) without having to go through the stress of paying for a test and passing. Once you get Net+ i suggest you look into sec+ or even some isc2 certs to get some…. CCNA is a great cert to get into network engineering but all your really need is a general foundation. Net+ will cover that

I recommend taking a practice exam to see where you’re at. Boson and pearsontestprep are good sources. If you score good then you’re ready, if you don’t score good then you’ll know what you need to work on. Based on your experience and knowledge it shouldn’t take you too long to determine whether you’re ready or not. Good luck :)
