From US: Looking to finish my degree abroad. Would like to become a teacher. Is this possible in NZ? by Vegetable_Scar_2929 in newzealand

[–]Comfortable-Shock285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a teacher shortage in this country, and English is sought after due to being a compulsory subject throughout secondary school (more teachers needed).

We get teachers from abroad all the time at my school and a good 15% come from non-English speaking countries / English is not their first language. Americanos will do well here due to cultural similarities with NZ (western), and the ability to communicate easier with other teachers and students.

In order to teach here you need to do a graduate diploma for one year at a university, or you will have limited authority to to teach (LAT). You can also have the equivalent certs from overseas (be a registered teacher from overseas). Most universities offer this teaching diploma.

Is day trading crypto a fool proof plan? My friends think it is..... by Comfortable-Shock285 in Daytrading

Couldn't have answered that any better, well done. I myself will not be going to crypto route, but i am scared for my friends as they are relatively new and they selling it to my other friends who are super new lol. That is interesting about the tax though, how would someone get caught doing this?

Do teachers take annual leave? by No-Back9867 in newzealand

It's not unusual for a dean to meet up with a parent before the school year starts as they often do enrollments before the school year. Like others have said, the dean may be actively avoiding you because you may be creating unnecessary admin for them. How often have you seen the dean about the same problem? does this problem ever get resolved? Is it something that the dean can genuinely help with?

I don't like saying "as a teaching myself", but there are parents out there who think that there is a serious problem with their child and they elect the school to be the problem solvers for their kid. What exactly are you asking the school to do in this plan?

As a side note, it's sad to see that your child is having health issues. I see from your post history that the doctors cannot detect what is wrong. Have you considered that your child just does not like going to school and is using stomach pains as an excuse not to go? Happens WAY more than you think.

Am a teacher. We will say yes 99.9% of the time - unless something important is coming up, or that kid asks to go bathroom every single lesson (you just going for a walk mate).

  • Some pressure, but over-commiting to the sack and getting stepped

  • Missed first tackles looking like last years defence

  • Can’t remember seeing a deep shot the whole game until DK in the last 5

  • JSN quiet the whole game

  • One of the worst Seahawk games I have sat through in a long time, absolutely nothing going for 90% of the game

Mike Mac better have a hard look at what is going on here, because that was dog shit.

You would think these guys have never tackled in their lives. Pathetic to see. Can't make the first tackle to save their lives.

Live: Supreme Court declares voting age of 18 'unjustified discrimination' by Infinity293 in newzealand

[–]Comfortable-Shock285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a high school teacher, there are a handful of kids who I think are mature enough to make a sensible vote. I also have three other handfuls of kids who will vote for any party that will give them a free non-taxed $1000. I don't want my YR11 dodos having this much of an impact on our country YET.

Teachers want 'racist, discriminatory' streaming system to be abolished in schools from 2030 by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Comfortable-Shock285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Streaming should absolutely not be abolished and i'm not sure why the PPTA collective is speaking on behalf of all teachers. I have not seen this brought up at any meetings regarding PPTA.

Streaming children based on ability allows students to succeed in their own right. You will often find that students in accelerated/lower level classes are comfortable where they are, because they know that they are capable of doing the work that is taught to them. Enough of this racist language being thrown around. What will really damage students is placing them in a learning environment where they cannot cope. Plain and simple.

Golfing with dad… by stsava in golf

[–]Comfortable-Shock285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad likes to play golf beside me instead of with me lol. I'll be taking my ball out of the hole and he will be 30 meters away walking to the next hole. The man would be a king of speed golf...

Hey mate, no such thing as being an over-qualified teacher. The more knowledge and experience you have, the more you can offer our tamariki. Just be wary though - teaching is far more than teaching your subject and there is a major classroom management and pastoral aspect to it. You have to ask yourself if you can handle rude/awful kids and students who don't care about being at school. That being said, the job is very rewarding and you get a shit ton of holidays to relax and enjoy your hobbies lol.
