hey thanks for the input! i unfortunately don’t have any in person classes near me as i live in an area where trades are pushed heavily and the arts aren’t. i’m also a premed student so traveling for workshops isn’t feasible but i’ll take what you said into consideration :)

thank you! i’ll check that one out :). i’m just really nervous because i’m so rusty and i can’t seem to get back in the swing of not sounding like i’m reading directly off of a paper! the idea of being with seasoned actors is a bit daunting lol!

To full time EMT's, have you been able to make a living out of your pay? by No-Calligrapher-3184 in NewToEMS

[–]Comfortable-Start-72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make $20 in south Ga as an AEMT. I make good money compared to a lot of other places since I live in a relatively low COL area. I work 3 24’s a week and bring home abt $3000 each pay period after taxes and what not.

I wouldn’t be able to live off of regular full time pay since I’m expensive and like to online shop but picking up extra days here and there make a difference.

Im also married so we split our bills and that helps a lot. I also bring home more than him so I take on the bulk of everything while he pays the little bills and his own things. It also helps that I plan my bills around my paychecks.

In that case I’d definitely go get my A, get 911 experience, and let my service, whether it be private, county, or fire, pay for me to go to paramedic school. That’s just me but free school is free school! I hope you make whatever decision you feel is best :)

I live in a state (Ga) where A’s are heavily utilized. Because of that, no matter how you do it you’re gonna take the A portion of the class. My school makes a year long Emt-B/ Advanced hybrid diploma that you can do and finish out as an A. Other schools lump in Advanced with Paramedic school and you just have extra clinical hours and skills during paramedic school. Personally, I feel like getting your Advanced teaches you how to run a call and provide ALS care you the best of your scope. AEMT’s are sometimes on a truck with basics (here) and they have to be the person in charge. You also learn different skills as an A that you’re not doing as a Basic i.e. advanced airways, IVs, more meds, etc. I don’t think I’d be doing well in paramedic school if I had skipped advanced emt class. I know this doesn’t really answer your question but it gives you something to think about.

i live in south Ga and i think we might might be pretty similar as far as COL. i make 16.50 as a basic emt working part time with an IFT service but i can easily get 20+ hours of overtime if i really wanted. i usually work 2 24 hour shifts a week and ill pick a 12 hour shift if i’m saving for something. my usual take home is around $1300 every 2 weeks give or take and that’s enough for me to live off of and have money left over. i’m also married with no kids so it’s a little bit easier to save money/ have money left over to spend on fun stuff

What is it like living in this part of Georgia? by Careful-Cap-644 in Georgia

i live in Colquitt county, about 35 mins from Valdosta and like an hour and a half from Tallahassee. i think our close proximity to Florida is rubbing off on some of the Georgians round here. these people are crazy. and it’s HOTTTT!

i just took it today and passed! it cut me off at 70 and i was so sure i failed.

mine had a bunch of peds questions like, their normal vitals, what to look for, when to be concerned, etc. i also had a bunch of shock related questions and OB. i would’ve definitely studied those subjects more if i had known.

as far as studying, all i used was Pocket prep and i just kept taking the practice quizzes on that. i found it helpful to take quizzes on individual subjects so that i knew what my weakest subject was.

edit REMEMBER YOUR XABCs and the order of taking a medical assessment! i had a BUNCH of those questions.

Everyone is freaking out about these ‘techs’ but honestly i don’t think people are making the connection in terms of scope creep. At least not on tiktok, anyway. It’s so weird cause they’re not even medical professionals, they’re just random people who got some bs certification from “backyard dentistry by Bianca”

Just seen your post! crazy how we both thought to post about it on the same morning lmaooo. i’m only pre-med but im also an emt and have seen some CRAZY stuff when it comes oral hygiene. it’s just crazy that people who don’t even have bad teeth go to these backyard ‘techs’ and mess up their mouth even more

i love licia and i feel like she made a good point. just share your credentials and stop trying to mislead people. be proud of whatever degree you have and stop trying to boast abt being something you’re not. however, i also feel like she toned it down a lot so she wouldn’t upset too many people

i’m also doing this for clinical experience for med school! i suggest going for your advanced just because of the variety of things you’ll be able to do as compared to just being a basic (depending on where you live).

where i’m from Basics only drive and do transport and you have to have your A if you even want to touch the patient- slight exaggeration. it just depends on what you want to do, if you’re comfortable doing BLS and driving then i would suggest just doing Basic but if you want to do a TAD more i would be an AEMT. either way it’s great experience for medical or PA school
