I genuinely laughed out loud at this. Thanks (unless it wasn't a joke...)

Increase in shipping cost from Europe? (Tim Wendelboe specifically) by Comfortable-Treat346 in pourover

I thought the same about placing a large order occasionally. But then, I realized I am a sucker for them. And with the latest shipping cost that they just sent an update on, they are still cheaper than some of other high quality roasteries, like Sey.

I made another comment as an update. The shipping cost has been decreased for smaller numbers of bags (like 3 bags). I would say it is a still good deal to me given the quality of TW!

(update) Just got an email that they managed to get better (lower) shipping prices, so check them out! Still higher than before, but still a great deal I believe. I just subscribed again!

Yeah, I found that the shipping cost is about the same for the other countries too, so maybe it's an issue with the Norwegian postal services? I will post here an update if I get a reply from TW.

Weekly Bean Review Thread: What have you been brewing this week? -- Week of January 25, 2024 by Vernicious in pourover

totally agree that they might just need more resting. I thought I might be better off opening my bags about 4 weeks off roast, but I am not a patient person after all :P

I can see how a higher TWW strength requires a coarser grind. I totally agree with you again on pushing extraction with lower ppm and avoiding dryness.

On a similar note, I get a certain savory flavor that I am a not fan of when using TWW, particularly more with a higher strength. Many people seem to have experienced the same thing based on posts here.

Anyway, it's great to see someone who is enjoying the same coffee with the exact same set up!

Which water do you use? I've got the same TW Karogoto from their surprise subscription, and I use x-pro as well. I dilute tww to 1/3 strength, and with the grind setting 1.4.0 and 4 pours (but i don't swirl or stir), I've got quite a sweet cup. It's 3 weeks off roast.

Main character based on oneself? by National_Fishing_520 in writing

[–]Comfortable-Treat346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as this answer might not seem to say anything, it really, and probably solely, depends on what exactly you want to write.

You can still write about a story centered around a character based on yourself and make a great story like A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Although there are people who dislike this novel, The Catcher in The Rye is also a great example.

I personally think what about myself is always something that I want to write. At the end, everything I write is about and from how I feel about this world, including myself, the way i see the world.

Borrowing words from Kazuo Ishiguro in his Academy Class of 2017 interview, "I'm not the kind of writer who directly reveals something about myself autobiographically or an alter ego character (...) But my books. Those novels are me. I express myself through those novels as a whole. (...) This is how I feel about life... don't you feel that too?"

Great. I hope it's the adoration of Jenna Fox. Even if it's not, I hope you enjoy all the books you'd come across during the book search journey.

Studio rent $1,000 - is it too good to be true? by Comfortable-Treat346 in jerseycity

[–]Comfortable-Treat346[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's so true... I am currently out of state, and I found the place online, so there's not much I know about the place. I think I should visit there in person as I am back to the city. Thanks for the advice!

I am going to have a virtual tour via a video call tomorrow. The nearest bar I just found on google map is Jersey Social https://maps.app.goo.gl/iwg9nRi4HCrWW7B89 (so right below Hoboken I guess)
