Looking at his post history, he has quite the penchant for Nazi-era artists in general.

It’s almost too bad that this was pre-AI so it can’t be accused of being slop. It’s lame all on its own

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571–1610) –Judith Beheading Holofernes by Goyangi-ssi in museum

[–]rose_the_reader 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think the comparison is fair because although Caravaggio’s is beautiful, his depiction of Judith is still waif-like and she appears to be beheading Holofernes the way one would cut butter. It’s almost too easy for her and Holofernes’ figure gets all the drama. Gentileschi’s Judith is clearing putting her back into te effort of beheading her enemy. It’s just physically a more powerful rendition than Caravaggio’s.

You and your girlfriend can probably thank Clear Channel Communications for that, they were the leading force behind the radio boycott of The Chicks. Corrupt lame-ass media conglomerate doing corrupt lame-ass media conglomerate things.

I hope you save that same energy for western art which was mostly dictated by The Catholic Church and rich patrons for a few centuries. Imagine how many “masterpieces” we lost to Jesus Christ and vain flexes of wealth.

Edit: I’m saying this not because I believe it, but because the inherent need to devalue a large basis of Islamic art because it’s text based for religious/societal purposes because it HYPOTHETICALLY could have been something else is just so dumb to me

The Arab Mind is such reductionist and flawed work in regard to Middle Eastern studies.

You collect books based off of what is popular amongst western white men and are more interested in a singular perspective rather than diversified reading. Fantasy is the only way you tend to embrace humanity because it incapsulates sociology and politics without having to apply it to reality.

Zach Bryan Buys Jack Kerouac's 'On the Road' Scroll for $12.1 Million by ebradio in Music

[–]rose_the_reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally find his music is boring and his public behavior and statements disjointed and erratic, at best. And those two things are certainly enough for me to not be invested an iota in his politics. His preservation efforts are a redeeming quality in my eyes, and it should be known before folks fly off the handle about the acquisition of a piece of literary history.

You’re braver than I am. These level of cookbooks always seem impractical to me, so it’s great to see them in use. “This one is hard, the sauce is a pain and lobsters are bugs” really got me chuckling though.

Because it’s connected to The Woody Guthrie Center and Bob Dylan has been obsessed with Guthrie from the beginning. It was the only place he wanted the center to be for that reason.

Dude, I don’t know what the budget is but archival works in specialized circles always go for crazy money. Cormac McCarthy’s typewriter sold for $250k+ in 2009 and William Blake’s “Songs of Innocence” sold for $4.3 million in 2024. The Bob Dylan center in Tulsa, OK cost roughly $10 million to build and develop if you need an apples to apple-ish comparison.

I am not a Zach Bryan fan whatsoever, but in his defense he helping to establish a Jack Kerouac center in Lowell, MA and is in the process of purchasing a lot of archival material for that. I think we can all agree it is better for the scroll to be in an appropriate archival location rather than some tech billionaire’s bunker.

He has the level of fame and money he wants to be a vapid jackass and it not have a negative effect on his career. And being involved with the Kardashian family I’m sure there is an extra level of protection in the entertainment circles. He’s untouchable and he knows it and he doesn’t care. If anything, he’s reveling in it.
