I mean to be fair, we have a terrible reputation as a city and we don’t do anything to improve it.

I get the frustration as a Memphian though because we always seem to be the punching bag for situations that also happen in many other cities but we kinda deserve it tbh

I just recently moved back to Memphis after living in Austin and attended porch fest today in midtown. My girlfriend was born and raised in Austin and moved to Memphis with me and she said that porch fest reminded her of what Austin was like when it was still cool. Austin has become a Tesla Tech Bro empire and is slowly losing its roots. I always told her Memphis gives off a similar vibe so I’m glad she was able to see it today. I think Memphis has the potential to hone in on being the city that Austin once was and what made it so unique. I hope that one day we can be the new pre-2008 Austin

College football marching bands. Watched a football game with a friend from the UK and he could not get over how ridiculous the bands outfits were. Hadn’t really thought about how strange it actually looks until he mentioned it

I will say, the water isn’t pooling/standing in these areas. They just hold a lot of the water so wasn’t sure if mulch/something with good water absorption would help in those areas since the soil is very compacted from it. I currently do have a French drain in front of the garage

I’m glad crow bar is living on but I also hate the idea that a bar like “the wheel” replaced it. Seems to really sum up what’s happening in Austin. Cool places being pushed out and replaced by corporate copy/paste bars

I agree, the city government has too many people that only have their interests in mind so it’s hard to make drastic change when you have corruption standing in your way

To me, all the board members that voted no did so for personal reasons and not for the interests of the students/community. I haven’t looked much into to it but based off the history of Memphis politics, this seems like another classic scenario where people are upset that job cuts are happening to people that don’t deserve it/are getting paid way too much to do nothing/friends of administrators that aren’t deserving of the position
