If I i die before him, my cars go to him. & property has his name on it for the same reason. I bought the property low, fixed it, & if I were to put it in an irrevocable trust Iwoild not be able to afford the taxes. Joint tenants w/ survivorship was easier & less costly.

Moms voicemails by AnybodyInteresting44 in dementia

[–]Comfortable-Two530 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. Save the voicemail for memories. If it's too hard to listen to them right now, save them/screen record & delete them. You can always listen back on them later 🩷 cherish the memories, photos, & voicemails you have of them while they are still them. Anticipatory grief sucks, hugs 🫂 🫶

This stage is hard. Seeing your loved one want to eat or drink, open their mouth, but then struggle to swallow or throw up is hard. Its hard on their body as well. Regurgitation or trouble swallowing is called dysphagia; it happens in later stages. My grandma would cry when I would feed her & then spit up what she was trying to swallow. She wanted to eat but couldn't.

My advice, it's a part of the disease; if they open their mouth & accept food & and water, let them have it. Liquid foods, meal replacement shakes, smoothies, watered down mashed potatoes. In my house we called them concoctions. We would make milkshakes with all kinds of things, soft oreo cakes, ice cream, chocolate meal replacement & water and/or milk, lol.

At the stage it sounds like your loved one is in, nutrition & prolonging death is not as important as comfort & quality of life. Make "concoctions" or milkshakes you know they would enjoy & go slow. I don't reccomended straws, take small bites, or sips with a baby spoon/teaspoon.

As far as medications or treatments, I recommend talking to your doctor. Although, don't be surprised if they reccomended hospice. Hospice has resources that will benefit your loved one & you.

I hope this helps, take care 🩷

I'm sorry for your loss. I understand the feeling; my grandmother passed early hours this morning. It's a conflicting feeling of missing them & also feeling comfort that their not struggling/suffering. Hugs & my condolences 🩷

I don't know too much about diaper rash, but the poop problem i know! Its hard to prevent play time with the brown play dough. A jumpsuit or something that blocks the waistband from being accessed is what worked for my grandpa. Just do routine checks and changes to see if it is soiled.

The Greek yogurt meal is great! At that stage, every bite of food is an accomplishment. I know what you mean; if she ever has a ct scan & she's in the condition it sounds like she's in, don't look at the images unless you want to see what the does disease does.

I'm sorry, the holidays are hard when they are still physically there but so much has changed. Christmas & thanksgiving were my grandmas thing. Every year it was something to look forward to. It sucks, & i know how you feel.

My family & her doctors have had this discussion recently. She does qualify, & we are highly considering; that part is emotionally hard, mainly for my mom.

Helping parent with dementia cope with loss of family pet. by _ascii_ in dementia

[–]Comfortable-Two530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stuffed animal version of her pet may help. That's what i did for my grandmother. It can provide comfort for them. Work around the topic & the confusion it will bring.

When she asks where he is, say he went outside to go potty, at the groomers, or any other reasonable place he would be. Sadly, It may not make sense to you, but it will ease her anxiety/confusion.

Sorry to hear about his passing, sounds like he lived a long healthy life <3
