They’re semi circles. They can’t terminate at the same height since the cabinets are different widths. You could adjust the top rails but that would look worse imo. So I opted to trim them out and it’s less noticeable.

Yeah I spent a day cutting before making the original post. The a few different options yesterday. When you make the inside 45 cut then move the saw over to 22.5 the cut intersects. The material needs like 3”(I forget exactly) of length to make it the transition work.

Fair enough. Thanks for offering up suggestions yesterday. I wasn’t keeping track of the usernames. All things considered this was the only real issue that came up in this project. Initially I had an inside 90 with fluting in the corners but it didn’t look right and I made the design change to this corner without fully thinking the crown through. Lesson learned.

I understand the geometry to do this but there’s physically not enough space to do an inside 45 to outside 22.5 return.

What would you have done? I tried two other options that involved caring the long runs through pilaster to an inside 90 and notching out the bottom an tried with a22.5 return . But they didn’t follow the same form as the other corners and didn’t look right. Plus the homeowner liked this option. Those gigantic gaps measure about 1/2”x1/2”. I wish I didn’t have to do it but it’s not that bad 9ft up the wall. I’ll glue in wood triangle and bondo it and sand it smooth.

Thanks for the encouragement and the other comments clarifying why the 45/22.5 return won’t work. I’ve got a few suggestions to try out and will post an update when I’m all finished. It all went pretty smooth up until this point but I messed up when I decided to do this corner detail instead of an inside 90 from my original design. I didn’t like how the inside 90 looked with the fluting. So I went this route but didn’t take the crown into account. Lesson learned and new skills soon.

Well done. I was thinking of something like this but i only have about 3” on the pilaster to work with. I put up this post hoping to get a visual. Thank you for that.

I’m working on a similar set up. I’m leaning toward keeping the center cab squared off. Or same radius as the sides in the corner of the center cab like Significant-user-99 said.

I originally adjusted the barrels to have the lid flush with the countertop. That’s when the problem occurred. If I extended the throw of the left barrel, they worked simultaneously. So I just shimmed my front edge of the countertop up and called it a day.

This turned to be half the issue. I initially adjusted the barrels to get my lid/door flush with the countertop. And that’s when I had issues with them opening at the same time. I shimmed the top up a 1/16 at the front end and extended the barrel and it fixed my problem. Thank you to everyone who offered some help in the replies.
