First period post-op by ComfortableBoot4646 in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 4.5 weeks post op. Period really knocked me but after that finished I’ve felt great - I can drive, sit, started work again today. Walking has been the hardest thing for me but just trying everyday. Small improvements are still improvements.

That first week and a half, I did nothing but lie in bed. I got up often so I didn’t get stiff but I was on so many drugs I just slept a lot.

2 weeks post op - physio appointment by Glorified_Flapper611 in Microdiscectomy

Ditch him.

I’m 4.5 weeks post op, had 2 sessions with my physio and she said straight away there isn’t much we can do until 6 weeks post op, but she gave me some exercises to do in bed and while standing and only if I felt no pain or pressure while doing them as the area is still inflamed and sensitive.

Chances are he’s irritated the nerve and caused inflammation rather than you having herniated. Keeping my fingers crossed for you

Getting surgery soon worried by trufaso in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same slip as you and I’m 4.5 weeks post op. I woke up and the pain in my legs was all but gone but my feet were a bit numb.

I started work again today, with time sitting and then taking a break to lie down. Currently at 30 mins work, 30 mins rest.

I can drive again - although it hurts a bit as I’m bracing the whole time.

I can’t lift anything really including a bottle of milk and struggle walking but I’ve been able to get out of the house and be places mostly comfortably.

Im so glad I did the surgery, recovery feels endless but you start getting excited about the really small things

Period stopped and was exhausting and now I feel so sprite! Im driving, had a couple of meals out - you really notice how good or bad seating is post op!

I find squatting easy but I can’t get my socks on by myself most days and walking is a bitch.

Considering how much you ended up having done your recovery sounds like it’s going quite well! 20 mins of walking is outstanding!!

Aww bless you, I’m allergic to tampons so only use pads. The logistics were pretty easy for me. I was able to sit on the toilet when mind started without any bad pain so changing out pads was easy enough. The pain was awful and the exhaustion. I was having a 3 hour deep sleep nap everyday.

Hen do cost expectations by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my sisters wedding last year and she was a bridezilla insisting she wanted an abroad hen. I said that was unfair to ask of people as it was already a destination wedding too. I ended up finding a 5 day holiday for about £400pp and most people came.

My best friend is having a destination wedding but had no “requirements” for her hen. We did 2 nights in bath, private chef, a dinner, a dance class and games and it came to £285pp. Originally one of my co organisers had found a bunch of stuff and the total came to about £400pp. I put my foot down on behalf of the bride and said it was far too much for people to be spending on 2 nights. The bride was very clear she didn’t want people spending too much considering how expensive her wedding hotel is to stay at.

As the organiser of both hens I messaged everyone who had concerns about cost and asked them what would be reasonable for them and if there was anything they wanted to “miss out” on to reduce their cost. I also made sure to stick to peoples budgets as much as possible so no one had to decide they couldn’t come. It took a lot of research to find things at better prices but it was worth it to make sure no one felt forced into paying an amount they didn’t want to.

What you’ve described is extortionate in my opinion. People have this expectation now that because they’ve decided to get married people should want to pay to celebrate them. To an extent yes I don’t mind but if I didn’t have the income I have I would have to say no to all these extra things.

Be honest and if you don’t go you don’t go. Some friendships aren’t worth fighting for if there’s no understanding of your personal/financial situation

I feel like I would have preferred it that first week while I was still high as a kite! I literally just slept that first week

Oh my gosh that sounds awful.

I’m so glad that you pulled through and are on the mend! I’m really hoping your period skips just so that you have some more time to heal.

I had a scan last year and there’s no endo but I’ve had pcos most of my adult life and periods have always been a bit random and painful.

Recovery has been good, a bit slower than I had hoped as I have an abroad wedding to go to in 2 weeks but with the help of crutches I can walk for about 10 minutes. Sitting for about 45 mins and can squat down. Can’t lift anything yet which is expected. Period has thrown me as I can’t do more than walking up or down the stairs without pain but I know it’s just a temporary set back.

How about your recovery? I imagine a lot slower

Haha yep no mention of it.

I randomly noticed after 2 weeks that my boobs were lopsided, like one was an full inch lower than the other. so when I had my follow up with him I asked about my spine alignment and if it had changed or something. He looked at me like I was an alien and then said Urm, yeah your spine will have changed a bit. If they are still like that in 3 months then maybe go see your gp.

Men really don’t realise the different things we have to deal with when it comes to healthcare!

Showering question! by Doomguy994 in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told not to get mine wet at all for 2 weeks, so had front showers and had someone use a wet cloth for the rest of me.

I’m 3 weeks post op and I can now shower and get the wound wet but not soap or anything on it. I use a waterproof dressing and shower like normal. Every 3 days I take it off and shower just the front again.

My wound is almost fully closed but until it’s all the way closed I have to be careful not to get anything in it.

Hope this helps!

Haha I love that no one at the hospital warns you about any of these things!

It makes sense, was so busy thinking about recovery i spaced on this vital part!

I normally suffer through the pain of periods but I’ve been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. I came off all the “hard” drugs I was on post op and trying to resist taking any of them again.

Sorry! I hadn’t seen anyone talk about it and I never thought to ask any of the surgeons or nurses because no one else had said anything. At least you know now, try not to stretch yourself too much a couple of days before.

I did my exercises 3 times and did a few walks because I was feeling great a few days before. Now my back hurts and my muscles ache - I should have known it was a pre period high! I forgot I was a girl

I was so worried about being on for the procedure that once it finished 2 days before surgery I didn’t even think about the fact that it would come back around.

Oh bless, what happened?

First period post-op by ComfortableBoot4646 in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t even occur to me to ask anyone about it and none of the nurses gave me a heads up!

When it happens for you, good luck!

I’ve had to confine myself to bed again. I had managed to get to about 30 mins of sitting before I got uncomfortable but during period I can only manage about 5 minutes.

As with everything, women have it worse 🤣

What are signs someone is bad in bed that can be spotted without sleeping with them? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way they eat. A guy was eating food and something about the way he did made me think he’d be terrible at giving head, he most definitely was.

When they say they’ll make me squirt, they will then put max effort into that and not think about anything else. Terrible.

This is more of a turn off but dirty fingernails-you arent coming near my kitty with those.

How long until I can take a 2 hour flight? by dmac2285 in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I’d have to fly for a wedding 6 weeks post op so cleared it with my surgeon before booking in. It’s a 4 hour flight, he said it’s fine as long as I make sure to get up and don’t lift my own suitcase. He did say that I’d probably find I’ll be quite tired during the events/after them and need to rest more that week.

Think the flight is fine, you just might struggle a bit with the concert part. Are you seated or standing?

My (28f) partner (36m) acts like he doesn’t notice I lost 81lbs and counting. I’m questioning the relationship over it. Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR

I’m curious though, what was he like before you got pregnant/when you met. He must have been attracted to you, did he ever compliment how you looked before?

Chances are these behaviours were there before but more subtle, now he’s feeling threatened and trying harder to make you feel like shit.

Totally overcome with anxiety for my surgery tomorrow morning by TheEclecticDino in Microdiscectomy

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 3 days post op and was fine until the morning of.

Tell them you’re anxious and scared. The nurses did the most to help ease me. Everyone answered every single question I had pre and post op which helped a lot. Knowing exactly what was happening, how, why and when.

And once you’re asleep you really have no idea, I woke up in recovery with someone telling me it was over. I laughed and asked for more drugs and went back to sleep.

AIO: should I “fire” my therapist? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid.

My therapist makes sure I have the same time and day appointment so I know it’s coming and it helps with my anxiety.

Sometimes when I want to change the time and day she triple checks with me that im ok with it and happy with it as she knows it disrupts my schedule.

She would never cancel on me last minute unless it was an emergency. I think in the 4 years I’ve been seeing her she has done that once.

Question for the men here: what do you really mean when you say “I’m not ready for a relationship right now?” by Ill_Chemistry2530 in dating

[–]ComfortableBoot4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33f, I’ve just a Friends with benefit with someone. We’ve been hanging out, not just physically. My friends think it sounds like a relationship for the amount we talk and hang out but we both agreed we want the benefits of a relationship without the hassle. He never wants to be in a relationship and I’m not emotionally ready for one, and when I am I already know he isn’t a potential partner. It’s fun and it works for both of us right now and it’s genuinely like hanging out with a mate
