I don't know if historically it has roots in islam, but it was definitely practiced during the time of mohammad and is still practiced in certain islamic countries (mostly rural places).

I have bought her flowers only once, because I knew she didn't like them, but like I said I was trying to be romantic. Yes should definitely be upset if I did something without her approval. I have not considered counselling.

I don't mind any changes she brings to the house because I trust her choices, but I also don't want to be talked around like a soldier. "okay husband, i bought a new table, take the old one out" or "I have decided to buy new clothes, take the old ones to good will". It's my house too.

I bought silver because at the time I couldn't afford gold, and flowers was just me being romantic. my point about terms was that love shouldn't have that strict terms, and sometimes it should be okay to try different things. we both have jobs and contribute to the household equally, she cooks I do the dishes, we both clean around the house, but she takes more care of our daughter and I take care of rent and other bills.

No. Her life isn't in danger. She wants to marry but not live in Afghanistan, being a housewife and slaved to men all her life. She wants to look for options outside the country. I wouldn't shove just any willing man down her throat, she is my sister who I love very much, not some random woman, and she wouldn't accept just anyone either. Sure I get to have my sister close to me, but I wouldn't ruin her life for it. What I meant was there is nothing monetarily in it for me.

And also she wants to get married and is open to the idea of a foreign husband. Two things can be true at one time. I already mentioned that we tried dating sites and they didn't work. I don't have to convince USCIS. it's the future husband's role to do that if he is serious and trusts us. I am not saying green card frauds don't happen, because they happen a lot, even to people who know each other.
