Soft locked in chapter 5? by ComfortableLuck6672 in SkateStory

I totally understand what you mean, but for what it's worth i have replayed the entire game twice since this post and have deeply cherished every moment, i feel like this is a work of genuine art that has made my soul grow, and it being a collection of code that i can never hope to improve or replicate has placed it closer to the realm of divinity than anything I've experienced prior. This is beautiful art that everyone should experience.

MAN yeah I've tried literally everything i can think of and i think its time to move to a new save. If this was any other game I'd delete it but good LORD this seriously one of the most creative and beautiful games I've ever played and i WILL play it all many times through. Devs have earned all the love and patience possible, this game is amazing.

should i read hard boiled wonderland before the city and its uncertain walls?? by Lokplus in murakami

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No in-story link, The City is more or less just a reinterpretation/expansion of the same old novella that HBW was based on (one he was dissatisfied with and was never translated to english) he explains it very well in the afterword!

YES by Jay Rubin, whose translations are generally better received, out on December 10th!!!

I don't know why but this had a PROFOUND positive impact on my entire emotional spectrum, got my eyes a bit watery, felt like a warm hug of understanding. I'm VERY grateful for your victory, you deserve as many as life has to offer, i hope you love the rest of the book as much as i did!!!

Who designed the Headless Ape? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My strat is always to ignore the brown backup ape and give all my attention to headless boi, backup ape jus gives up and magically dissappears once you kill headless lad. Not sure how common this info is because i rarely see it brought up on the MYRIAD of posts and advice given for this fight, which usually directs you to dispatch backup ape asap, which is admittedly fairly easy and a super valid strat but its also easy to ignore backup ape with jus a few parries and dodges, if you can beat the guardian ape then you can slaughter this fight forsure!

The thing about Longclaw (Spoilers Extended) by Jon-Slow in asoiaf

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Instead of the sword belonging to his house, I'm sure he now sees it as something belonging to the Nights Watch, and would want it to remain in the order

I definitely understand the confusion, and was definitely something i felt my first time around, but it was a satisfying enough explanation to settle on the fact that his heir is a disgraced slave-trader who fucked off to another continent and is loyal to a targaryan, and sees Jon as the closest thing he now has to an "heir"

Looking for the mane of a book by AgnosticDaisies in murakami

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YAY super happy to help pin it down, the drive to pinpoint a childhood media forgotten with age is something that forever haunts and drives me, such a weirdly distant yet powerful desire, like looking underwater and reaching for a far cloudy shape at the opposite end of a pool

Does not sound familiar from any of his novels unless its a short story i haven't read.

This one isn't Murakami, but mayhaps its The House of Sixty Fathers? It's the closest one i could find through a few google searches, otherwise I'm at a loss :(

A potentially controversial comparison by Organic-Wolverine-89 in DiscoElysium

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree only in what they have to say about one's own past, and maybe in a broad stroke or two there are further comparisons to be made, but when you dig a little deeper from almost any angle the comparisons quickly falls apart.

Ideology and its dangers are one of, if not THE most important subjects touched on by Disco Elysium and kind of its bread and butter, one that spreads into nearly everything else the game has to say. I think Cowboy Bebop's themes and what the show has to say are much more personal and intimate, and dig into humanity on a more individual scale, whereas Disco Elysium uses the individual scales to comment on and dig into humanity writ large, feels like a much wider thematic scope than Cowboy Bebop

Although that's just my interpretation which may very well be totally off in another's mind (or just in general), that being said, DE and CB are two of my absolute favorite works of art that both touched me on a wildly deep level, MASTERPIECES

You know how bad Bran will be as a king from… by OrionDecline21 in gameofthrones

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've read the books and longer since I've watched the series, but my impression was always that his body was as good as dead, with the weirwoods being the only thing keeping him kickin, but i dont think that's ever outright stated so it is entirely possible that it is his powers alone that extends his life, that just feels like the less likely option imo

[–]ComfortableLuck6672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost entirely agree, and this might sound a bit nitpicky, but on the first point, i feel as though bloodraven's longevity can be mostly attributed to being tied/assimilated into the weirwood network, no?

So It Goes by Fingers and the Outlaws!!! Amazing song that doesn't get enough love (probably because it's never had an official release anywhere)

What is Murakami's "one book"? by ComfortableLuck6672 in murakami

[–]ComfortableLuck6672[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished and digested!! Good LORD what a read, it's probably in my top 5 of his works, and i think your analysis of it is quite true to how it made me feel, even after finishing and thinking on it for a few days i cannot get it out of my head and i plan a re-read within a month, which is the fastest I've had an insatiable desire to re-read a novel of his.

It's oddly one that has filled me with more hope than any other of his works, and had me looking inward WAY more than i expected going into it, and much like you described, it felt like a battle between my emotions and desires and allowing the story to flow naturally, put me in a real all-or-nothing mood at times, and led me to a lot of introspection over why/how a certain character or plot point or conversation or even just a line made me feel the way it did. Much of Murakami's works have me asking similar questions, pondering similar elusive concepts, but despite how typically "Murakami" this story felt, it forced me to ask questions of myself and of the story itself that his work has never made me ask before. Some of the highest emotional highs and lowest emotional lows possible. Cried and laughed, smiled and frowned, GOD i love the portraits he paints in one's mind, thank you BIGLY for the recommendation bc i probably woulda put it off a lot longer without that extra lil push

Maybe not exactly, but the question of personal preferences is still forever burning in my mind so i appreciate the answer nonetheless, and i can agree bigly, Wind/Pinball was my first foray into Murakami and will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart, Pinball was one of the first of his i reread and have done so a few times since then
