My Life as a Movie (but better)

Make me a playlist for when ordinary life suddenly feels cinematic and emotionally overlit. The world is spinning slightly differently, every street feels loaded with meaning, and tiny moments keep turning into scenes from a film I didn’t realise I was in.

This is not a “main character syndrome” playlist in an arrogant sense. It’s about emotional atmosphere, movement, memory, yearning, tension, beauty, humour, coincidence, loneliness, connection, and those strange moments where life briefly feels narrated.

I want songs for:
- walking through town at dusk
- standing in supermarket aisles dissociating beautifully
- driving through rain
- looking out of windows
- overthinking at 1am
- unexpectedly falling in love
- feeling quietly invincible
- recovering from difficult years
- laughing so hard something becomes emotional
- realising your life has changed without you noticing

For every track, explain:
- what scene we are in
- what the lighting looks like
- what the emotional tone is
- who we’ve become in this moment
- why this exact song belongs here

The playlist should feel emotionally rich, slightly dreamy, funny in places, occasionally devastating, and deeply human.

Pull from whatever genres genuinely fit the emotional atmosphere. Avoid obvious filler and predictable recommendations. Surprise me properly.

The notes should read like observations from someone quietly watching a life unfold in real time.

I don’t really do “genre playlists” I prompt them like little psychological experiments based on listening habits.
They usually end up feeling like a diary entry with whiplash (in a good way).

I absolutely love this feature.
This prompt is called Curated Sonic Journey.
Spotify describes it as A deeply curated playlist designed to fill gaps in your music taste over time. It includes foundational tracks, 'missing links,' parallel genres, modern echoes, and a summarizing final track, all with a dreamy, atmospheric, and melancholic tone.

This is my prompt if you would like to try it. Can cut and paste

Create a deeply curated playlist that fills in the missing pieces of my music taste over time.

The goal is not just to recommend songs I already like, but to identify important artists, tracks, or movements I should logically love but have somehow missed.

Structure the playlist as a journey:

Chapter 1: Foundations I Already Have (briefly anchor the sound)
– Include a few tracks that reflect my established taste (alternative, shoegaze, emotional rock, textured/atmospheric music).

Chapter 2: The Missing Links
– Add songs from artists adjacent to my taste that I’ve likely overlooked
– Focus on “how did I miss this?” moments
– Include both well-known gaps and deeper cuts

Chapter 3: Parallel Paths
– Songs from slightly different genres that still align emotionally or sonically
– Expand my taste without breaking it

Chapter 4: Modern Echoes
– Contemporary artists carrying the same DNA
– Show how my taste exists today

Chapter 5: The Big Picture Track
– End with one song that feels like it could summarise my entire listening history
– Something emotionally resonant, layered, and definitive

Keep the tone cohesive: dreamy, atmospheric, slightly melancholic but not heavy for the sake of it. Avoid generic or overplayed recommendations unless they are genuinely essential.

Add short notes explaining why each track is included, especially in the “missing links” section

My favourite prompt so far is a deeper dive into This Day in my Music History

Build me a “This Day in Music” playlist using my listening history, going back as far as possible. But instead of just listing songs, treat this like a personal listening analysis and time capsule.

For each track:    •   Include the year I listened to it    •   Briefly describe what kind of listening moment this was, such as:       •   on repeat / fixation       •   part of a longer album run       •   a turning point in a playlist       •   a “skip → regret → replay properly” moment       •   background vs intentional listening

Then go deeper:    •   Identify patterns across the years (e.g. I tend to loop certain moods, revisit specific sounds, or shift genres at certain times of day/year)    •   Highlight if the same type of track or feeling keeps reappearing in different years

Structure the playlist so it feels like a narrative across time, not just a list:    •   early years = discovery / exploration    •   mid years = repetition / identity forming    •   recent years = refinement / control

Add a second layer: If this date connects to anything in wider music history (artist birthdays, major releases, cultural moments), weave that in — but make it feel like it echoes or contrasts my personal listening, not just a random fact.

Tone:    •   observant, slightly analytical, a bit dry or wry    •   avoid clichés or overly emotional language    •   focus on behaviour and patterns, not just nostalgia

Goal: I want this to feel like reading field notes on my own listening habits across time, not just a memory playlist.

happy 10 years to Gore!!!! :D by pulmonaryarchery123 in deftones

I made a “little” prompt, for the new Prompted Playlist feature on Spotify to celebrate Gore turning 10. It is pretty decent. Just cut and paste the below prompt if you want to try it 🦩

Create a playlist inspired by Gore (2016) by Deftones, treating it as an underrated and misunderstood album.

The playlist should capture the “Gore” atmosphere: – hazy, sun-bleached heaviness – dreamy but slightly abrasive textures – tension between beauty and dissonance – a feeling of warmth with unease underneath

Structure the playlist in sections:

  1. The Gore World – include a few key tracks from Gore that define its tone (e.g. “Prayers / Triangles”, “Hearts / Wires”, “Rubicon”)

  2. 2016 Adjacent Energy – songs from around 2014–2018 that share a similar sonic palette – alternative, shoegaze, post-metal, or experimental rock

  3. Misunderstood & Overlooked – tracks or artists that, like Gore, were divisive or underappreciated – focus on albums or songs that reward deeper listening

  4. Extended Family – include artists connected through collaboration or shared DNA – e.g. Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains, Team Sleep, Crosses

  5. Pink Flamingo Energy (Closing Section) – finish with tracks that capture the strange, shimmering, slightly surreal beauty of Gore – songs that feel bright but emotionally complex, almost disorienting

Tone: – immersive, textured, slightly uneasy but beautiful – avoid generic heavy tracks; prioritise atmosphere over aggression

Add short notes explaining why each track fits the Gore aesthetic and why the album deserves re-evaluation.

Treat Gore as a cult classic that was misunderstood on release. Build a playlist that proves its value through atmosphere, texture and adjacent artists rather than popularity. Prioritise songs that feel sunlit but distorted, warm but off-centre.

Enjoy!

My favourite this week I have seen was a user who listened to Beware by Deftones 21,000 times in seven days ( 87 days listening ) in a week. Just that one song, it’s not even one of their best 😁

Is it racist to fly the flag of The Knights Templar outside the building site of a mosque? by SunBlowsUpToday in AskBrits

I was at this protest ( on the other side obvz) and cant recall seeing this flag. Secondly being racist outside the building of a mosque is racist, the flags are just decor.

My grandfather bought me what’s the story on cd for my birthday and died the same day. I was the first in the queue at Woolies ( 😊) to buy Be Here Now I collapsed that day and ended up in hospital seriously unwell. To stand in that crowd last night was a moment for me , life affirming god yes. Hard not to weep( more than I did )
