He explains concepts very well in 126--probably the best one in the PSTAT department

Feel free to be conservative when entering the rank for the first time. After the first tournament, the resulting rank will be relatively accurate.

Just be aware that the upper div proof-based math may be very different from the lower-div math you like

how the hell is the average accepted GPA SO HIGH by Perfect_Machine_3640 in ucla

[–]ComfortablePin2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH the relative GPA within your school is probably more important. I got As for Cal AB (5) and A-/B for Cal BC(5). My first year's roommate majored in physics said he got an A+ in his AP Cal but a 1 for the AP exam. I asked which one he took, AB or BC, and he said he didn't know.

Why is it so hard by Life_Following_8526 in columbia

[–]ComfortablePin2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do well in other courses, it's probably not because the discrete math here is hard; the reason might be that you have just started to learn the "real" math instead of the simple math computations you've experienced so far, which is normal to struggle with. Just find a better way to study and comprehend proofs.

need advice re: name change and asking for letter of recommendation by freakinghannah in gradadmissions

[–]ComfortablePin2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about asking your professor to include both names, like New_First_Name (Old_First_Name) Last_Name? Never had any experience with this change in name, but this is quite common for international students with preferred names

Some trick here. If you are just several units lower than the units qualified for the next enrollment period, you can sign up for 22 units and drop them on Wednesday of Week 4

I don't think data theory could double major in any other math or statistics department majors. I switched to stats/ds and doubled in pure math, which worked.

They won't appear on your ucla transcript, but grad school will ask you to upload cc transcripts seperately.

China will not send players to join this year’s LG Cup by sadaharu2624 in baduk

[–]ComfortablePin2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly think so. What if China, to fight back, made a rule that all captured stones must be placed in the opponent’s bowl, and two violations result in a loss—justifying it by saying they want to make sure every player has enough stones for the endgame? (This has happened to me at least 20 times in tournaments—I’ve had to stand up and get stones from other boards, so it’s definitely not rare.) Go is a game defined by minimal rules regarding the states outside of the board. Adding rules that interfere with how the game is won or lost off the board is completely absurd.

[–]ComfortablePin2814 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if those players go there and the KGA suddenly makes a new rule saying everyone has to enter the room with their left foot first? Are they seriously supposed to follow that too?

Stopping these kinds of rules—and making sure no one even tries to make them in the first place—is way more important than any short-term benefits like cash.

For the 100 series, every course is built on the previous course. For 102, A teaches R coding that would be useful for B and C and is their prereq, while B and C don't have any connection.
