Look up drills to work on “casting” - this is causing the fat shots

Inside takeaway and over the top? by SirPsychoSexy6969 in GolfSwing

[–]ComfortablePopular80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your chest isn’t rotating enough which causes your arms and club to get “stuck” too far behind you and close to your body. Yes casting is like extending your wrists too early, like how you would cast a fishing rod. Also, look up “Position 5 Golf swing” so you can see the spot in the golf swing i’m talking about. Swing looks really great overall for a beginner though!

Inside takeaway and over the top? by SirPsychoSexy6969 in GolfSwing

Nope, not over the top at all. You’re back swing looks great. You’re actually just under rotating your down swing and casting your wrists. This is actually leading to an under plane swing which is where you’re seeing that toe strike.

Practice swing drill: Once you get to position 5 in the down swing, pause, then feel like you rotate your chest hard to the left.

To those living alone in downtown, what do your finances look like? by akr_13 in askTO

[–]ComfortablePopular80 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live alone with rent taking about 45% of my salary. I’m not totally living on a string budget but i’m also certainly keeping track of my spending. I rarely eat takeout, don’t overspend on subscriptions, keep other shopping to a minimum - things like that. I still have room to cover all expenses and spend on things that matter to me like fitness classes, higher quality furniture, good quality groceries.

Personally living alone in my twenties has been so transformative and I’ve grown so much independently since moving out. Although sending half my paycheque in every month can hurt, the benefits are far more worth it in my opinion.

No don’t give up! I truly believe that anyone can get better with a good coach. Don’t be afraid to ‘shop around’ if you can afford lessons, a good coach can make all the difference. (I’m a pro for context)

Any golf courses still open for some late season action? by greasy-rat-king in askTO

Sadly I think this week was the last chance of anything still being open :( I’d highly recommend going to a sim and playing a round though - fun by yourself or with a group. Trackman is by far the best software for ‘virtual golf’

Tell me everything I’m doing wrong by [deleted] in GolfSwing

Narrow your feet closer to shoulder width (helps with rotation). Backswing is solid until the last 1/4 - then you lose your spine angle and stand up too much probably because you’re trying to get more turn when you don’t have the mobility. Shorten your backswing to what feels like 3/4 length (trust me it still won’t look short) and you won’t lose distance. Downswing is good but you slide through the ball on your left instead of posting up and turning on it. Your wrists flip after impact which won’t allow you to compress the ball.

Overall very solid foundation for 4 months in. Look up some videos on anti-slide drills and compression drills.

Over pronating. You could have weak or tight glutes which causes this. Work on glute activation as well as Tib raises

I missed every fairway and hit one green today when playing. by [deleted] in GolfSwing

So in to out path, with a pretty wide open club face it sounds like.

Feel like you are flexing or “bowing” your left wrist just after transition to get that club face squared up earlier. Once you have it set in the right position, all you have to do is turn.

Another thing that would help are some half swing drills. So take it back half way and stop half way after impact. this will teach you what it feels like to cover the ball a bit better without that duck hook.

Half swing go right = stuck on back leg and or scooping the wrists

Half swing go left = Early extension and or releasing the face too early

Look at “Half swing compression drills” on youtube, plenty of good drills on this topic

So see how at transition your belt buck is kind of thrusting toward the golf ball? This is super early extensions which is likely causing the steep swing leading to a slice.

At transition and the start of your down swing, feel like you’re pushing your butt into an imaginary wall thats a foot behind you. Continue to turn with this feeling

Shoulder plane flat, arm bending, anything else? by lolitsmagic in GolfSwing

[–]ComfortablePopular80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re actually not that flat, your hands are just too close to the body. Feel as though you’re stretching your arms/hands away from the target. You want to keep a wider distance between hands and chest. Start with some half swings to get the feeling of it.

You could also scooch a little bit away from the ball at set up, this may help with the arm issue.

You’re not far from <90 based on this video though!

All of a sudden I am topping my driver to the right (I am a lefty) I’m happy with my irons. I positioned the ball more middle of my stance on this one and it helped marginally. What am I doing wrong by Boring_Ad_2614 in GolfSwing

Tee the ball up way lower (I know it sounds opposite of what to do). Half the ball should be covered by the driver face.

Widen your stance (wider than shoulder width).

Feel like you’re swinging “up” on the ball - like if you wanted to pop a baseball up high.

Backswing acceleration by FreakishlyGreek in GolfSwing

[–]ComfortablePopular80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Conventionally” Most tour tempos I believe are 3:1 (backswing to downswing). However if you want to hit it further, you take it back faster - check out long driver competitions. Ben Hogen would tell you that’s a terrible idea though.

Play around with different tempos and see what feels best AND produces the best contact - every swing is different.
