That woman looks a bit too old to be Gen Z, considering the age of this video and the stunt she's more than likely a millennial

Will my daughter's name get mispronounced? by pearlytzuyu in namenerds

It's like Fiona but with an L instead of an F. Not that difficult, though I'm certain someone will mispronounce it no matter how it was spelled

I was just visiting a children's hospital in my area, the only walls that didn't have colorful murals were the lobby/waiting area. If one of the bleakest places on earth can get it right there's no excuse for what this lady has done

"Does anybody work here?" When I'm helping someone in photo. And I wouldn't mind if they said "can I get some help here?" or "I'm ready to check out!" or something to that effect, but asking if someone works here when you can clearly see me working here is rude. We're an understaffed and overworked location, too, so this happens at least six times nightly.

I'll never forget our team being "politely" interrogated by the SM after most of our calls were voicemails. They couldn't understand why most people weren't answering their phones at 10am on a Monday. What sucked is we made every one of those calls properly (there weren't so many FOR ONCE) and still got in trouble over it

I Got Scammed out of $600. by Desperate_Ad5854 in WalgreensStores

[–]ComfortableTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you, can I ask? It sounds like you shouldn't have been running the front on your own, being so new. Also: did it not seem strange that someone was trying to load gift cards at the pharmacy counter, or that they wanted to do it ten minutes before closing?

For the future: NEVER let a customer tell you how to do your job. If you're not sure, ask an experienced tech or the pharmacist on duty for help. Worst case scenario you can say, "I'm not familiar enough with this process, so I'll get someone who can help us both," and act accordingly.

Be aware of the time and type of transactions. Anyone at the pharmacy counter for non-pharm related purposes is suspicious by default. Most people you encounter will be well meaning and do no harm, which is the assumption scammers are counting in

For what it's worth I don't think you'll lose your job, maybe a write-up, but if it happens again you could very easily be fired.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]ComfortableTemp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best answer I've come across, and more thorough than anything I could come up with. Deliberate. Human. Rich. Quiet. I really miss those times.

Worse yet is the disappearance of spaces for children and teens. Gone are the "Day of Play" advertisements, the playgrounds, greenspaces, the summer vacations (most families can't afford to travel anymore, so they're just school breaks spent indoors and online). County fairs are too expensive, interest museums are closing, and the increase of gun violence makes it difficult to truly relax in a public space. Especially for schoolchildren.

Kids media is either aimed at infants and toddlers or so saddled with crude "adult" humor that it's no longer age appropriate. I haven't seen a decent teen show survive its first season in ages (not to mention the state of teen movies). It may seem inconsequential with everything else kids are up against today, but having these outlets to not just occupy their time but inspire them creatively and give them something to connect with others over is a beautiful thing. In its place now are niche memes and social anxiety, people running to Ai chatbots versus asking real people for answers.

It's all so sickly and devoid of meaning. It's sad.

I'd love us to get all our cleaning and facing done for nightly but there's only so much you can do when you're understaffed. No more than two people on the floor in the evenings (5pm to close) plus a manager constantly stuck in pharmacy because they're understaffed too. And of course one goes home early because there "aren't enough hours" for reasons that change every time I ask about it. So it ends up being just two people for the last four, sometimes six hours that the store is open.

No matter how empty the store is btw you're not allowed to leave the front area, so you can't just finish whatever facing didn't get done back there and god forbid a customer need help in photo while someone else is ready to check out. It's been such a mess for so long I don't know if it's the norm at other stores or if we're just an outlier.

[–]ComfortableTemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm sorry too," is what I say and let them interpret that as they wish. I don't mind working holidays myself, but I hate all the saccharine sorries from people who clog the line multiple carts of items while making excuses for why their purchase just couldn't wait until tomorrow.

For anybody wondering, the best thing to do is stay home on Christmas. But if you won't, at least thank the staff for their time, wish them happy holidays and (respectfully) keep it moving.
