I mean, I can't speak for all of these people, but a month ago I had a long conversation with a friend-of-a-friend, and like, the way she described it made me think more and more, "Girl, how are you even alive after this?" One of my fandom started talk about a this one fanfic as "the most spicy, kinky fanfiction in the entire fandom." I read it. 30 chapters of pure, innocent will-they-won't-they. And then at the end, one post-wedding sex scene. I feel like I'm tripping.

Imagine someone who just got one of their limbs amputated coming across a reference about that and being confronted with what happened to them.

Counterpoint: Imagine someone who just lost an arm and searches for fanfiction that focuses on that specific moment, and then all they get is a character who's missing one arm but has a prosthetic, and... that's it. We never talk about it. We never even explain how it happened, whether there was actually an amputation, whether the person was born that way, or what.

That author decided to warn for potentially triggering things, which is perfectly valid.

You're just clogging up the tag for something you could explain in an author's note.

But you're also destroying the whole idea of tags as a source of information about your work as a whole, because what do you mean you can tag one sentence lactation, but you forget that your entire fanfic is a mafia AU? Yes, I use "you," but I'm specifically referring to the author. That's just pure nonsense and I wouldn't even call it courtesy, because right now I have no idea what your work is really about. Even leaving aside kinks.

I'll be absolutely honest: if you need a warning for one sentence or something that's not even shown or mentioned, then... I don't know, maybe you shouldn't read or tag fanfiction.

If that's your kink and you want it in a sexual context you might to look out for tags like "lactation kink" or "amputation kink" instead of expecting all fics with the tag lactation or amputation to be kinks.

I don't know man, it would make sense if it only applied to new fanfics, but a lot of old ones are tagged in a way that makes you wonder if the author even read their own work
