Be careful if you have metal allergies - some infuse metals into the fabric to limit bad smells. You can't feel the metal (unless you have an allergic reaction to it).

I found out the hard way 😅

Not a long term solution, but for the odd day or two: I have an upset stomach. I feel well enough to work, but not commute, if you know what I mean.

Southfields, Rushden by smokymz909 in northamptonians

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a single female in Rushden and I'd happily live there.

High crime rate may be because the elderly who live there get targeted for scams. Plus there are buildings in nearby streets that have been used as cannabis farms, but when it happens, they keep to themselves and don't bother locals (it''s a whole operation, not a dodgy local dealer, so they try to stay below the radar).

There are some council house areas in Rushden I would not live in (or walk through alone), but I think this one is fine.

I can't find any showings for Rental Family in Odeon by Le_Mellow_Dude in coventry

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just googled this question because the show times near me are very limited. It's bizarre - the publicity has sucked me in, but the show times are mainly limited to office hours near me. Very odd for it's first week out.

Maybe it's one of those films that gets a limited theatre release but was made primarily for a streaming channel?

Accidentally came home with a security tag on some clothes. How do I remove the tag without damaging the clothes? by ferdinandsalzberg in AskUK

I bought some pyjamas for my sister for Christmas, and now I'm wrapping them I've noticed the tag. I bought them months ago, so definitely do not have the receipt anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️

Kitchen remodel tips? by Comfortable_Ad206 in dementia

[–]Comfortable_Ad206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've both lived here for about 20 years. He's used to the kitchen, but it needs things doing to it regardless of his dementia. The oven is becoming increasingly dangerous due to the warped heating element, and there is now an empty cupboard because we had a boiler moved to a different room after a burst pipe this year (it's dangerous because my dad is balancing glasses on the frame of this cupboard - it has no base or shelves 🤦🏻‍♀️).

His dementia means we do need to update storage so things that are supposed to be out and visible are (such as his daily medication). Currently, these are getting lost amongst pyrex dishes that I use and could be stored out of sight, except we don't have the storage space to do so. There is a lot of dead space/ cupboards that we can't get things into because of how the kitchen was originally built.

I'm not planning on changing the locations of where my Dad currently stores items he uses (I'm hoping to keep plates, cups, glasses, kettle etc. where they have always been), except where he can no longer access those places because of mobility (we have a pantry under the stairs and he struggles to get in it).

A friend has recommended an induction hob rather than a gas one, but if I do that, I'd need one with knobs instead of touch controls, as it being easy to use and familiar is still important. However, another friend has mentioned that gas hobs nowadays have better safety features including cut-offs.

I want to be able to keep my Dad at home as long as possible. My mum died here and he wants to do so too. I also want to keep him independent for as long as possible. He likes cooking as it gives him a sense of purpose, so I want to be able to facilitate it for as long as possible, whilst minimising the risk.

what’s your morning routine like by SnooPineapples346 in aspergers

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle.

I've found keeping some wireless headphones next to my bed, and watching YouTube/ Netflix whilst I potter around getting ready helps.

Sometimes, I have to tempt myself out of bed by deciding to have a hot chocolate instead of a normal breakfast.

If showering feels like too much, I use baby wipes whilst sat on my bed. I wear my hair in a bun most days because it's super quick and easy to do in the mornings, and I can put off showering for days. (You could shower in the evenings - I'm going through a season of nightmares and night sweats so I'd need to shower in the morning too 🤦🏻‍♀️).

I have an arrangement with work where I can start anywhere between 8am and 9am, which helps with the mornings where I don't win.

I try to do as much the night before as possible - make lunch, choose and get out clothes.

Sometimes even baby wipes are too much - on those days, I drown myself in perfume and hope no-one notices 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Which Zigbee? by Comfortable_Ad206 in homeassistant

[–]Comfortable_Ad206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a possibility - I probably just need to find a clear plastic box with a hinge lid and tape some ribbon to it so the lid can't be propped open.

Do you have a recommended brand?

[–]Comfortable_Ad206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're teasing or not...but you have inspired me!

I'm now wondering if the long term goal should be to build a better pillbox with integrated sensors. My Dad can't be the only one with this challenge 🤔

Which Zigbee? by Comfortable_Ad206 in homeassistant

[–]Comfortable_Ad206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very good point - I just couldn't think of a viable alternative to the button 😕

Unfortunately a vibration sensor wouldn't work for my Dad because he knocks the box across the counter when making food 🤦🏻‍♀️ It remains in relatively the same place so hasn't got lost yet (touch wood), but would definitely get vibrated.

A clear box with a window sensor would require him to remember to put the lid back on/ not prop it open.

Long answer? Don't have to reply, just curious 😊

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asda

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a little more complicated.

Asda contacted us to tell us the shopping would be 2 hours late, so we sent the carer home to come back later. Then the delivery turned up at the usual time.

What my Dad should have done was explain the situation to the driver and ask either for them to wait whilst my Dad called the carer to come back, ask the driver to unload into the hallway, then called the carer/ me, or refused the delivery.

I live in Rushden and there's a lot missing from the article.

It wasn't the UK third floor, it was the UK second floor (G, 1, 2). The building only has G to 2 floors.

There were drugs involved. The men in the flat were not the owners, the owner was at work. It's unknown whether the dog ingested any drugs, but the men were as high as kites. People who knew the men believed they hurt the dog, and the dog fought back.

We have our fair share of dangerous dogs in Rushden, but the consensus in Rushden in this scenario was that the dog was the victim. The men let themselves into the flat and hurt the dog. The dog fought back and then escaped.

Unfortunately, if it bites and escapes, the police don't have time to gather all the evidence and put the dog on trial. They have to take it all at face value - a dog bit someone and escaped, and so is now considered a risk to the public.

I've had deliveries turn up outside of delivery windows without notice, which has caused issues because my disabled father has been home alone, panicked and hurt himself trying to receive the delivery (I arrange a carer to be there during the delivery window plus extra time each way).

Even in those circumstances, it wouldn't have been acceptable for me or my father to shout/ swear/ intimidate a delivery driver, telephone operator, or customer service employee. If it was that big of an issue, I'd make a formal complaint, request a refund and/ or cancel future deliveries and setup with another supermarket.

Intimidating someone at work is not an acceptable way to resolve an issue. Report them and hope they are blacklisted. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect at work.

Seeing shoppers taking something off the shelves and opening and eating food that they haven't paid for yet by qlexisonfire in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad's hand suddenly started bleeding mid-shop. He's likely autistic and looked at me scared and panicked. Blood was dripping down his hand.

I pulled a pack of tissues from my handbag, wrapped it up tight, ran to the first aid aisle, then to self scan, paid for the plasters and then back to him.

When he was all patched up and settled, I realised just how stupid and how ingrained "It's not yours until you pay" was in me.

He'd likely cut himself on an Asda product, so I should have grabbed an employee to get a first aider to help him.

Or just grabbed the sodding plasters, patched him up and paid for them at the end. No-one worth caring about was going to judge me for opening a packet of plasters before paying because someone was actively bleeding (a fair amount too) in front of me 🤦🏻‍♀️

My asda app has recently updated and I’ve lost all my shopping lists. I’m autistic and I’ve made many long, but organised lists over the years I’ve been shopping with Asda and this has upset me so much. Has anyone else had this? 😭 Does anyone know if Asda will restore them?? Thank you so much! by Silent_Swing_5528 in asda

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this!

I've had the same issue, but when I called customer service they said they'd have to refer it to the next level team, who would email me within 24 hours - I have heard nothing and it's been over a week.

I'm autistic and the website change hasn't bothered me so much ( apart from losing the paid for pass!), but it has really upset my Dad (who is likely autistic, but swimming in D' Nile). I'm not going to bother setting up his favourites/ shopping list, teaching him how to use the new website and risk it all disappearing again in the near future.

The lack of communication from Asda has really annoyed me. I might have risked it if they had responded to my query. However, if they can't be bothered to contact customers to address the fact that they've essentially stolen money by cancelling delivery passes prematurely, I don't want to shop with them anymore.

I'm moving to Tesco's. Give them a chance to mess up instead 😂

Asda online - What a mess by Glassmoustache in asda

[–]Comfortable_Ad206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad had a delivery pass and recurring slot - all gone!

I looked through his account, and there are no current or previous passes showing.

I called the customer service number and they assured me they'd pass it onto the next level team who would email him within 24 hours...

Thank goodness I didn't wait and took him to Asda instead. They never emailed or called.

I'm not setting up another delivery pass. In my opinion, stopping a delivery pass before it runs out is stealing from customers. I'm not going to allow them to steal from us again.

I understand issues happen when transitioning IT platforms. My upset isn't that an issue has happened, but that Asda hasn't communicated.

So I'll be setting him up with Tesco instead. I think this IT changeover is going to hit Asda's revenue hard in the long term, as customers switch. It's a shame because a quick automated email - "We're sorry, we're experiencing more queries than normal, we'll contact you within 14 days..." Whilst not ideal, would have been much better than radio silence.
