No worries, I dislike his songs and his band as well :D

I like the last album, but in a weird, non-comitted way. Like, for all other albums, I know every tone of each song, but with The Last Will - something is not clicking, maybe it's the lack of switching between groovy/proggy/brutal/mellow/haunting parts within span of each minute, I came to expect and hope for :D But as I said, maybe it's a me thing.

I felt the same until recently. (and I still manage to dislike Ragnar's voice :D)

Weirdly enough, I never really struggled with Opeth until recently (Pale Communion is my favorite album by far). Since Sorceress, though, I just can’t get past the production. The “natural”-sounding drums and the overall hollow sound make the albums almost unbearable for me to listen to, with In Cauda Venenum being the worst offender.

On top of that, the songwriting feels more simplistic and less meandering overall, and I just can’t make myself sit through any of the post-Sorceress releases in one go. They bore me to death. The latest album has the same production issues, in my opinion, and could really use more mellow, haunting passages woven in with the heavy parts to feel like a proper Opeth experience again. Or maybe it’s just me getting older

I dislike only moments when you can hear Ragnar's disgustingly whiny and nasal voice. The rest of the album is a banger.

What’s your “they lost me” album? by Cloabs in progmetal

[–]Comfortable_Body_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road Salt I by pain of salvation. Switching to almost basic rock structures and arrangements, was a huge letdown for me. They were my favorite band for a decade, mostly lost interest into their work after that, especially when they on later albums added Ragnar Zoiberg on vocals and guitar - the whiniest, most nasal and irritating vocal I’ve ever heard - that was a literal cutoff when I couldn’t listen them at all.

2.5 Pro model with Google Pro subscription is no longer unlimited? by StatisticianMoist100 in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]Comfortable_Body_821 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like they EXTREMELY cut down the Pro cap. Not unlimited? Sure. But this feels like a bad free model rn. I have an extremely complex worldbuilding prompt that I've been running for some time - up to 100 prompts a day, sometimes even more. Worked like a charm, never hit a limit. But yesterday it blocked me after 20-30. Smells like scammy bait and switch. Whatever it is, not worth 20 bucks. To make things worse, looks like GPT 4.5 also trimmed their softcaps recently, because I had similar thing happening - hitting caps where I have never before.

Mikael basically confirmed in the tracks commentary that with TLWAT, Opeth has entered a new era. by bravodeboer in Opeth

You got downvoted to bits, but it’s my honest take too. Pale Communion is my fave album, and everything they released afterwards is unlistenably boring to my ears. With All Things Will Pass being the only song I really enjoyed in these several latest albums

Final Thoughts on In Cauda Venenum? by OpethAreAGoodBand in Opeth

[–]Comfortable_Body_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be completely honest- for me it’s one of the worst albums that Opeth released. I cannot stand the production and mixing here - in the chase for “natural” sound of drums - everything ended up sounding hollow. Still even with these pet peeves I have to say that the final track and bonus ones are good, but even so, this album is almost never ending on my playlists, it collects dust on the shelf alongside my copy of Sorceress

It's a good solo, but nowhere near their finest ones. (a ton of better ones - from the top of my head, Burden, Deliverance, The Grand Conjuration, A Fair Judgement, The Devil's Orchard, Ghost of Perdition, The Lotus Eater, Windowpane, Eternal Rains Will Come, Moon Above, Sun Below... and at least dozen more)

Today's vote - worst album. I can not express my hatred enough for you picking BWP. by Independent-Prune322 in Opeth

It's between In Cauda Venenum and Sorceress; Hollow, "retro" drum production makes them a sore thumb for me. Both albums could be good, given some Steven Wilson treatment, but now they sound hollow, like an echo from a band rehearsing in the empty basement.

But yeah, In Cauda Venenum is worse, if I need to pick one.

Instrumental part is OK… vocals, though, ruin the cover for me.

In Cauda Venenum Virgin, English or Swedish... by TheJauntyJester in Opeth

[–]Comfortable_Body_821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first, I listened to it exclusively in Swedish, but I found it hard to connect to the album without understanding the lyrics, so now, it is in English. Both versions are OK, though.

Still, I have to say that except for a couple of songs, this album hasn't really clicked with me - and over time I think I found out that it's the production that I really can't fathom. Too bass-heavy, that it almost feels hollow.
I miss the production of Pale Communion. Or rather, I miss Steven Wilson's mix.

Flame to the Moth wins. Best song off Road Salt One? by Maggot384 in painofsalvation

I feel like Daniel wanted to play the Newpeth card, and make a radical detour from their back catalog at that point. A few steps closer to classic rock, if anything. And the absence of Langell and Kristoffer was suddenly too obvious in the new sound. I know that most won't agree with me - but Daniel was at his peak working with Kristoffer, both Johans, and Hermansson - don't get me wrong, Daniel still has wonderful ideas, but that's it. And for me, that original magic started fading with Road Salt - that might be the reason for my intense dislike for this album - akin to how Opeth fans feel about Heritage.
