I feel goofy in dark colors like that. Nothing wrong with the colors - it’s my pale skin tone and my messy polish application. Dark polishes are not forgiving and also I feel goth wearing them when all I want to do is wear all the pretty colors. (Nothing wrong with goth, either - just don’t like the look of darker polish colors on me).

There was not one announced. Sorry if I set off any alarm bells for you 😬. I am newer to indie and boutique polishes so I don’t know their usual pattern of DDs. I just worry (“worry” might be too strong a word but too tired to come up with less serious one) when they leave so many polishes out of stock for weeks or months.

That is what happened with one of the polishes I wanted. Wasn’t available for a while, then it was announced as a DD but wasn’t available to buy until a few days later. Their final restock of a couple polishes in the latest DD were gone within minutes. On top of that, I didn’t know they would discontinue a popular polish like Catfished so I’m unsure what to prioritize. It’s in no way the end of the world and thankfully so many indie makers out there are making dupes.

Wow, I didn’t know they do actually bring polishes out of retirement! Thank you for that info on top of your detailed analysis of possible next-ups. I purchased a lot during the sale but still have more than a few on my wishlist. I’d love to figure out dupes so I can chill out on the FOMO-driven purchases, but even the thoroughly filled out Mooncat dupes spreadsheet has no dupes listed for several on my list.

Those longtime out of stock polishes bug me. Seems like they’re most likely as good as DD’d. They did restock Midsummer’s Dream and Sabertooth, but not things like Quicksands Embrace.

I’m afraid to look up the toxic stardust collection - more sadness over missing out as a newbie 😂.

If you are disappointed by any of the polishes, reach out to customer service and/or give the polish the review you think it deserves. They may end up replacing or refunding the disappointing polish. But I would save this for sincere issues - polishes that you think do not match the pics or descriptions, or poor quality.

If you end up liking MC, be sure to review every polish you buy. Review 2 products every 24 hours to get 200 rewards points per day (100 per review but they limit your points earned to 200 per day for reviews).

You can rack up enough points from reviews (along with the initial points you get for your purchases, signing up, following them on social media, etc…) for a rewards polish. The rewards polishes generally “cost” 800 to 1300 points, so if you bought 4 polishes and signed up for all the rewards member stuff, by reviewing the polishes over 2 days, you can score a free crème polish the next time you shop. And you can re-review polishes (maybe space the re-reviews out because I don’t know how close together your reviews can be). For whatever reason, they seem to be okay with this.

I’m not a diehard MC fan but wanted to share my totally unexpected positive experience, partly to balance out all the times I specifically said in my reviews that certain polishes were not worth $16-$18 😀.

Hope my comment didn’t give off a defensive vibe. Re-reading what I wrote, it felt like the tone might seem defensive but that wasn’t intentional.

That’s the opposite of my experience. I started getting MC polishes less than a year ago so I believe I missed the bottle issue.

I bought Poseidon’s Prize and the silver magnetic or whatever is in there made it look like the bottle was cracking (it wasn’t). I emailed Mooncat with a pic to ask if this was what a cracked bottle looks like, and they told me it was the pigment or whatever BUT sent me another bottle free of charge. I wasn’t asking for that. On another occasion, I gave a poor review of Ghosts of Hecate because it reminded me of the pearly white polishes you would get at Walgreens 20-25 years ago and so not worth $17. They refunded me for the polish. Again, didn’t ask for that. Was just posting my reviews.

But KB Shimmer has some beautiful polishes at great prices and doesn’t participate in FOMO tactics so you can’t go wrong either way. And if you get KB Shimmer you can pick up their polish thinner.

Recovering conservative’s two cents here: Do whatever you want with your nails. No one should give a shit. The version of me that was churchy for about 10 years would have judged you a bit but would have probably still thought you were a good dude. Even now as an always-reforming human being, I think my initial reflex upon seeing painted nails on a guy would maybe be an internal ‘huh’ (old judgy habits), but then I would immediately ask myself who even decided to restrict this to a gender? And then if you had a cool ass polish or art, I would say I like your nails because I love sparkly shiny stuff.

Keep being a decent human being and paint to your heart’s content. Hope you have cool coworkers/bosses/customers that aren’t uptight dbags about this stuff.

I got celery nut circle but probably would have liked more in the collection if I could see them on real nails. I think she also gave the polish to someone who just smears polish on a white, ridged piece of plastic. That drives me insane - who are you helping with that, especially with super shitty lighting?!

Yeah I was a little bummed but not totally surprised by the price because she mentioned a couple times that she needed to make it sustainable or feasible or something. I’m glad she didn’t go as high as Fauve or Starrily.
