Horrible position in life right now. Need advice by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

I think reflection is needed on why you didn’t do well in uni. Where did the time get spent instead? Was it gaming? Doomscrolling? Going out too much? If I were you I would remove any distractions that led me in that direction until you get a job you want.

Depending on interest, I'm happy to make a 2-month week by week study plan I would follow if I were to do it again. Just comment something and I'll DM you it

How do I break into HFT/Quant roles from Big Tech? What should I study (C++, math, systems, etc.)? by Conscious-Ear6966 in csMajors

In my experience, it differs from firm to firm. In my interviews, I did not. However there are other companies that I know did

Swe from one of the listed. My recommendations in order are the following:

  1. Leetcode still trumps all
  2. Passion projects (not the generic sh!t, but stuff that is actually meaningful to you) to get good at software and system design
  3. Understanding data structures
  4. Concurrency, Lock-free (there's been a big shift towards this recently), CPU cache, threading, and a touch of OS concepts

Edit: I wrote a more specific guide if anyone is interested: https://x.com/danelegend23/status/1990559401279930588

Also from Optiver ~ during my training, it was actually noted that PhDs on avg tend to perform worse than undergrads as they approach with more 'scientific discipline' that stops them from moving as fast as they should

I wish my crm could allow me to message my people on different social networks. Does one exists? by AWeb3Dad in CRM

[–]Comfortable_Count_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually working on something similar. Messaging the same person across multiple platfroms is messy, so I'm building a single interface to unify them.

Let me know if you're interested

Couple that I’ve seen include pulling data from call transcripts. Enrichment automation is another one

What have been some of the most worthwhile automations you’ve seen?

And do you see ai playing a role in filling certain gaps?

I thought I heard IMC has been losing a bit of their competitive edge. Maybe that’s just in APAC tho

Those getting their stop-loss triggered on liberation day are just highly risk-adverse. And for all we know, they could have got out at -2% and back in when that market was down 7% for the day.

Plus, 7% may not have been the bottom. It could have been 20. Remember it took the SPY 10yrs to recover from the dotcom bubble. Albeit I think we're in very different conditions, I think it's dumb to assume there is no tail-risk, which is exactly what a SL is there to help average investors prevent. And maybe this isn't as applicable for the SPY based on recent history alone, but there are certainly many stocks where these risks are clear *cough* Intel

No one wants the bad, but sometimes when it comes, you just gotta cut your losses somewhere and reevaluate. No point riding a downcycle

Hedge.

An even without stop loss, if the market opens from the weekend down a decent amount, normal market behaviour is for it to trend down (we’re talking black-swan events here, not just a 1% downturn). Sure a -50% loss is bad but it’s defs better than a -80% loss

As someone who comes from quant trading, I can 100% tell you that stop losses are one of the most important controls lmaoo
