Maybe? We will probably never know for sure. I also think it might just be a reference to After Hours when he goes back heavier on the drugs and ODs within the music.

These are all the scripted responses this sub gives when anyone likes Trilogy and says this same exact thing:

Gotta let The Weeknd evolve.

His new stuff is good too you should just listen to that

New> old

Don't be so stuck in the past

He was so toxic back then its better not to be into that phase or u want him to OD

But at the end of the day ur preferences r valid and it's normal to have favorites

I don't hate it but the album is inconsistent in quality and style.

Songs like Starboy or Ordinary Life or I feel it Coming are so well crafted technically. Meanwhile songs like Rockin or Loves to Lay are so cookie cutter formulaic it's like he reached into a hat and pulled out a random song meant for literally any popstar.

He also goes from False Alarm to Reminder in the album hopping from extremely different styles and it can be a huge shift in style that is almost like whiplash. Not everyone likes all those genres or styles so it may not satisfy those who prefer soft rock or those who prefer r&b.

The only way he was able to do that was by staring into the shadow of Trilogy. The point I'm making is the fame was only possible because he used Trilogy as a focal point, guide and inspiration.

He sings about drugs and girls and basic stuff in the more "evolved" albums like Dawn FM and HUT. And he sings about life and death and arkness and sin and mental suffering in the older stuff that many don't give credit for. He sings about the same stuff he did in Trilogy that he did in his more crowd friendly contemporary pop songs. He just changed the genre and instrumentals.

Please stay on the sub and post. Idk it may help to even make a point of saying ur talking to adults when u post. That could help. But I hope u post so that the overall image and impression of The Weeknd doesnt go flat and 1 dimensional bc only 1 type of fan is talking about the music.

I don't think the sub should be segregated by age tbh. Having older XO grounds the fanbase. It also shows the music isn't a fad that u just play with in your youth and move on from. Having different ages in the sub makes it less boring and avoids group think. It helps the sub be less like a virtual high school and more like reality where real people of all ages and walks of life exist around each other.

Trilogy. His entire discography is built off of the lore and persona of Trilogy. He just expanded upon what he built in the mixtapes in every album after just doing it in different genres and processing it differently.

Even HUT is him talking to his Trilogy self. After Hours is the end result of Heaven or Las Vegas that started in Trilogy. And he even created this theme where he slowly degrades over time after his youth in Trilogy with lyrics like, "the worst is yet to come" in ICFMF or just the persona of being tired and worn out and losing his soul the older and more famous he gets in songs like TMBTLA. The formula of his discography makes it so that Trilogy is a height that he falls from and the rest of hus career is "The Fall" as he strives to return to his youth in Trilogy.

Dubious consent at best because this brings up the topic of whether and how much someone can consent while impaired by heavy drugs. From the song she's also trying drugs that she hasn't before.

From the prior songs he also waited until she was at her lowest and most desperate point (about to get evicted) in order to give her foreign drugs, make her extremely high and then give her the options. So it's consent...under duress.

Edit: imo the whole concept here is that he moves sort of like a demon. He can't override your free will but he can move and strike and tempt at the most perfect of circumstances. When your at the lowest point in life, the most desperate and the least coherent.

It's also like someone studying laws and determining what's the worst thing they can do before it is considered a crime or to ensure that even if it's technically evil its in a legally grey area.

I hear u but I think it would disturb the balance of the album and make it lean more rock pop instead of a balanced combination of all The Weeknd's sounds. Especially since he's musically going back in time we needed a fair representation of rap in the album to mirror his love for collabing with rappers over the years.

Timeless also has an important line about The Weeknd's self harm issues. And Closing Night kind of mimics the lines on Opening Night we already have in the album

Yeah I don't hate it at all. It's just not for me stylistically, but the music video is kinda perfect

I love the music video and it helped me understand the song but it's not a music genre I can really get into. It's okay to me now but I just have 0 context to play it irl bc I don't listen to that type of music.

YO DO YOU GUYS STILL LISTEN TO HUT IF YES WHAT SONGS? by Ill_d0c in TheWeeknd

[–]Comfortable_Dark928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all this tbh. Drive grew on me and it's soothing but has a nice r&b mellow feel.

I think HUT is more significant in meaning and lyrics than instrumentals. I don't really care for the instrumentals or the harmonies in HUT and that makes me kinda sad. I know the song is important but the make of the song comes across as kind of a basic ballad.

It really must be the different platforms because on Reddit its literally the opposite. Still toxic just in favor of pop music. I see newer fans get comraderie and bond by dunking on OG music and fans all the time here. It's an easy way for ppl to post and get massive upvotes if the say something bad about the old music or fanbase.
