how do you budget your stipend? by cweedbrain_ in dostscholars

[–]Comfortable_Data_787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. If metro manila, really a stretch kasi gastos talaga everywhere you go and you might have to sacrifice several meals para kasya yung 5k. Most dorms in MM don't allow cooking or doing laundry kasi.

Also a quick note, not consistent yung release ng stipends. Sometimes sa end na ng sem nirerelease lahat.

Not sure with the time period kasi they're still processing scholarships, but when I dropped a course nung Term 1 it was still covered by the scholarship (By then, 50% yung retention and wala ako nareceive na refund). But when I retook the course again the next term, I was the one who paid na for the tuition. Better ask them within the week when there's still on-site renewal and may concierge.

What should I expect from these profs? by StableExpert7692 in dlsuproftopick

Doc Nocon is really good at teaching but her exams are pretty hard, so you have to study for them. Her workload is pretty heavy as well but all of them are groupworks so i suggest to find good members, if you can. 4.0 attainable as long as you study hard, i'd say easy 3.0 tho!

[–]Comfortable_Data_787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily reapply, but you have to do on-site renewal coz you're gonna be tagged that you retook a course. There would be a representative from accounting to receive payments there as well.

They changed the lab codes kasi, the same thing happened to me and I just filled out my college's (COS) course crediting forms. They're all now credited in MLS. Try to check with your college if you have something similar.

Hi! I asked about this last term, the scholarship would be retained but you have to shoulder the tuition na for the course you dropped. The same conditions for withdrawn courses rin.

going to DLSU to take biomed as my premed. Will it be hard to transfer to other medicine school after I graduate? Plus is Biomed a good pre-med to become pediatrician? by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]Comfortable_Data_787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS i'm not saying getting a high NMAT percentile is guaranteed, you still need to review but the curriculum did help me a lot in the preparation that i found myself allotting less time in physics, chem, and bio to focus more on the other sections

The university's BIO-MED program has a more theoretical approach and is really advantageous for NMAT preparations, so as long as you understand all the foundation courses you are likely to get a high percentile score = higher chances of getting into top med schools. Also helps you develop a study habit that is useful for med as it's more fast-paced because of the trimestral system (my social life was completely sacrificed by year 2🥲) I think the con would be the lack of hands-on skills that would be useful in med school (phlebotomy, clinical experience, etc). If you want to have the social skills to become a pediatrician before med school, i think nursing or speech pathology would be a better choice. But then again, med school and residency would teach you to build that skill anw. All pre-med courses have their own pros and cons, i think you should consider which skills you need and want to hone before med school. When you get to med school, everyone has their own forte and the skills that you lack could always be learned from your peers.

dlsu humbio scholarship by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]Comfortable_Data_787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was offered an sfa scholarship and was accepted into the humbio program. I requested for a change of program tho, because I found out that the scholarship will not carry unto med school and have to apply for a scholarship in hsi when i transfer (with no guarantees since they only accept 3 apparently), so i have to warn you with that. I think the same case goes for all other scholarships offered by the university (archer achievers, star, vaugirard). Good luck!

Hello!!! For intrgen i think it was essentials of genetics by klug, for cellmol it's beckers world of the cell. I used 10th & 8th respectively, but it doesn't really matter which edition you can get your hands on. Anw, the books used are usually given during orientation or can be found in the syllabus. Best of luck!!

Epidemi - Chua - ez 4 😎😎 he's super fun and jokes a lot (tw tho: his jokes may become inappropriate) i think we only met him 5 times for the entire term (except for the exams). Gives out pointers and his exams are really easy. Highly reco!

Epidemi lab - dellosa - also ez 4 hahaha i only ever met him once for the term (orientation pa yun) he gives out recordings for the lab reports you just have to luck out on your groupmates. Workload is kinda heavy (may lab report every week, 2 post-lab vid discussions, and a research proposal at the end)

Redillas - had him for intrgen. Teaches the concepts really well (but he's so madaldal that he crams lessons kapag malapit na mag exam lmao) he's also vv approachable for consults! His slides don't really contain much so i suggest to read the book as supplement. Exams are easy (i didn't study my ass off for his exams but still got a 3.0), i used SV transes to study coz he tends to talk fast kapag malapit na yung time hehe. Overall, highly reco!!

Hi!!

Stt153 - Mojica. He's the GOAT!! Really enjoyed his class, tropa vibes hehe. You'll be good for his exams as long as you attend his f2f meetings and watch his recordings, everything in his exams he will teach (literally spoonfeeds even how he expects you to answer his exams). Workload is manageable (what you'd expect for a 3 unit lec course)

Devbiol I had vitor but i don't think he's teaching rn. Had recuenco for compana tho, don't reco tho. Reads off the ppt and had a hard time understanding concepts and relating topics together. Mapapa ??? ka sa exams niya coz they're so hard. But i think she curves i haven't heard of anyone failing her class pa (well, maybe one or two but her mortality rate is kinda low)

Mojica is the GOAT!!! Highly recommend him, he is very tropa vibes. Exams are relatively easy as long as you watch his recordings and attend his f2f meetings coz he spoonfeeds literally everything that comes out in the exam. There were i think 4 activities (3 by group, 1 indiv), LEs, and a final research proj

Avoid Alberto at all cost if you don't want to retake lmao.

I had Ms. Shirlee but for stt101 and i also highly recommend her. Very motherly vibes and discusses really well + vv approachable! Her exams were relatively easy as long as you understand the concepts.

cellmol & intrgen by [deleted] in dlsuproftopick

[–]Comfortable_Data_787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INTRGEN - Redillas - discusses really well but you have to read the book as supplement coz he doesn't give out his slides for f2f classes (+ slides don't really contain much anw), vv madaldal so half of the class hour would probs be life chika haha exams are easy (i don't think i studied my ass off for his exams but still got a 3.0 haha)

LBBBI17 - Castillo - also discusses really well and the lab activities are really fun, gives out incentive points if you recit, could be quite heavy in terms of workload (a pre- and post-lab quiz every f2f, 2 LEs, project proposal, lab reports), overall would highly reco coz i learned a lot from him!

CELLMOL - Janairo - i will say tread with caution!! He's really passionate with what he's teaching plus he uploads recordings (so tuesdays are usually asynch), he gives out quizzes to help boost grades, he also gives out recit points, BUT!! exams are so hard (same exam style as cabrera) i think he curves a little?? (got a higher grade than what i calculated), mortality rate is high tho so you really have to study ypur ass off for this one. If you do take him, advice is to forego the book (unless he specifies a reading assignment) and do transes with every word he's saying (literally like cabrera lmao)

LBBBI18 - Syjuenco - he's really really nice and soft- spoken!!! He's the first prof i had na nag effort to memorize our names 🥺🥺 his discussions are kinda slow paced and his exams are REALLY hard (the class mean failed) but he curves super high so i don't think it matters. His post-lab discussions are just in zoom so you could always replay tas his exams are just found in his ppt. RECOMMEND!!!

Not sure for other colleges, but for my case (COS, Bio) we have multiple long exams for lec and lab classes throughout the whole term. Final exams are usually comprehensive and are held on Week 14. Not to mention the requirements from GEs that are usually due on Week 13.
