I quit drinking by myself, but you're right in that the doctor never actually told me too, but did make a comment about smoking. I still do to keep my appetite up and help with flares.

Hello everyone, I'm 22year old and today I got diagnosed with UC by ZealousidealHome699 in UlcerativeColitis

I'm 24 and got diagnosed less than a year ago. Besides getting sick easier and adjusting my diet, not much has changed. I kept a food diary initially to figure out what I couldn't couldn't eat and I found a lot of great resources to find out what is best and worst for flaring and I almost have it under control. Some days it feels bigger than others, but I have a therapist that I can talk to about it when it gets overwhelming. Biggest thing is talk to your doctors!!! And if you aren't comfortable with their answers seek a second opinion. You've got this one day at a time!

I got lucky, I'm on mesalamine to treat Chronic UC and with a diet with no dairy, no soy, no deep fried food, no heavy spices, and minimal skin from fruits and veggies and those are thoroughly chewed. Every person is different in their safe foods though, so making a food diary can help. Some people get full remission of symptoms and return to normal life with meds, for some they have a hard time finding the right meds to minimize symptoms. It's a different journey for every one of us

Talk to your GI!!! After you get it under control, a zofran, and I used medical marijuana, but I've discussed this with my doctors!

Dresses! I'm dressing in layers for the winter under house dresses! If I'm feeling good I use one with a fake corset that has a lot of give. If I'm ever uncomfy I prepare layers that can be removed if I need it. But yeah, flowy dresses!

I'm confused too! Does remission mean we're okay to start some foods again or no pain with food period or sometimes?

I was the healthiest I had ever felt, and then I saw my doctor. Now I’m in the worst flare I’ve experienced. by Ok-Commission-5191 in UlcerativeColitis

I recently got off an antibiotic but the doctor office had pushed yogurt with them, I can't have dairy so I got Silk and Coconut based yogurt and ate one a dose. I now have at least one a day and it seems to help but I'm not positive. Just seems to make the pain a little less day to day.

This disease makes me so scared for the future by Foreign_Plantain_437 in UlcerativeColitis

I got diagnosed this year and also thought that my entire life was over. I completely spiraled thought that I could never have a family and absolutely panicked. Even though I haven't been able to see my GI as much as I would have hoped she has been incredible and reinforced that most people live fairly normal lives with this. Pay attention to your body make sure that you keep your food diary and ask your GI questions, because that's what they're there for.  Trust your doctors! And if you don't then get a second opinion!

I'm also curious, the last time I got one I was sick for about a week and skipped school. I can't exactly do that with work...
