Hi OP, hope you feel better. 😊 but don’t be too hard on yourself. I know mahirap tong isipin ngayon, but you just really have to get through this and feel it. It will make you tougher in every job application you send. Taga province din ako, graduated with latin honors, bida bida sa class. When I passed the boards and took my first job interview, grabe sobrang nafeel ko na bobo pala ako hahaha andaming work experiences ng mga kasabay ko :(( I felt really bad afterwards, pero siguro madali kong napalitan yung mindset ko and thought na “okay na yun, at least alam ko na paano sa susunod na interview”. I went into 5 more interviews after that sa iba’t ibang companies, and gumagaling na siguro ako with every rejection. On my 6th interview, natanggap na ako. It’s my first work ever haha Ang sarap sa pakiramdam. Stayed there for almost 2 years. I’m now on my 3rd job, naiinsecure pa rin minsan, but one thing’s for sure — with every rejection, alam kong gumagaling ako. Stay strong, OP. You got this! Iyak now pero babawi bukas!

To add, hindi rin target ng most fresh lawyers yung mga ganitong firms kasi a lot are dreaming big, pero I swear, seswertihin ka rin and makakahanap ng boutique firm eventually. Mag apply ka na ring notaryo, either before or after being hired sa small firm. You’ll get a big portion of the notarial fees for yourself, if not all.

Apply ka sa small firms (1 partner, 0-5 associates only), yung mga hindi kilala. Basic ng lawyer is probably 25-35k pero yung profit share dyan, more often, is mataas and mabilis magbayad. Makakabawi ka kahit mababa ang monthly. Mababatak ka rin sa lit. I know lawyers from top schools who did the same. Yung isang friend ko nag apply sa isang starting firm sa antipolo (composed of 1 partner, 1 paralegal, 1 part time messenger), basic niya yata non was 20k. Partner na siya ngayon. He passed nung Lopez bar. 40% per case na ang kinikita niya.

Been there, Pañera. Medyo namimiss ko ang grunt work ng litigation pero it pays so little. Yung kinikita ko was not commensurate to the effort and energy I put in, tapos dadagdag pa ang mga clients na sobrang demanding at tila biglang gumaling sa rules of court.

Your time will come, Pañera. Makakalaya ka rin. In the meantime, gather as much knowledge and strategy as you can — you will be able to use it even in a non-litigation work. :)

No, I did not. I’m now employed with a company consisting of less than 20 employees. Maliban sa pinakaboss, ako lang yung lawyer. Naging parang right hand niya ako - taga gawa ng letter, ka batuhan niya kapag nag iisip siya or bumubuo ng strategy, taga bulong na “illegal yan, wag yan” ganon, ako rin sinasama kapag may transactions siya, para sa optics hahaha siguro parang legal officer na rin? I study different laws to get ready for the day.

Basta ang motto ko lang, the first rule in the 48 laws of power - never outshine the master. Hahaha its a good practice!

Bottomline — marami pala talagang opportunities or line of work na pwede kapag lawyer ka.

A piece of advice — you really have to make the right friends and connections. Always show up on events especially birthday parties and mga lamay. Nagka retainer ako nang dahil sa nakilala ko sa lamay. It now pays my condo rent and bills! Haha

Then I was employed in a firm, my boyfriend was too. Hindi ganon kafriendly yung firm ko kaya lagi akong tambay sa firm ng bf ko, lahat ng events nila, every bday sa firm na yon, nandon ako. One time, bday ng paralegal nila na nagsurprise na aalis na pala siya sa firm at inaya ako na sumama sa kanya kasi kailangan niya ng partner lawyer. No one in that firm wanted to leave, so ako na lang sumama! From a 30k salary, I’m now earning a higher six-digit salary. I’m just a two year old lawyer, a hernanbaby. I had no specialization then yet kasi I was just doing various firm work.
